Post by Brewnoser » Wed Sep 23, 2015 5:26 pm

I am liking this crisply hopped Helles style lager. Very good. Image

It's in the NSLC.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Drinking some now as well. It is certainly crisply hopped. Nice clean finish with good subtle malt flavors. Excellent beer to have available in cans. Image

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Yes. I was pleasantly surprised. They said that was what they were trying for but I had my doubts. It will be too hoppy for some people, which is great.

For anyone listening, until the NSLC recognizes the error it's cheaper to buy it as individual cans than in 4 packs.

Wish the NSLC would list on the web site. I can't seem to find it.

According to Spindrift it's been fixed - it should be 13.99 for the 4-pack. If the label hasn't been updated mention it at checkout and they'll correct it.

The beer sounds & looks good. I always thought there might be a barrier selling a darker larger to the general public because the general notion of a lager is a light coloured beer. There's nothing more potent at destroying a relationship with someone than failed expectations. To sell a lot of this to the ordinary beer drinker, you'd have to do a lot of education, and also a lot of competing with the advertising from the beer giants.

Lager could be a craft beer gateway to the masses, but in order to stand a chance it would have to be light coloured (we have to entice them). Some people won't touch beer if it looks dark.

I'm just talking about the "bigger market" here, if it's brewed for people who have a taste for, and a knowledge of, craft beer, it looks like it will do (and is doing) well.

Perhaps the target needs to be the craft beer drinkers. I don't know.

I really like the idea of some locally produced European Lagers. Everything you get imported at the NSLC has been beat up and tastes like it's been shipped across the world.

I picked up a few cans in Port Hawkesbury on a trip down to visit my mother in Isle Madame.

Super hoppy for the style but in a very refreshing way. I'd be curious to see this style with just slightly less hop presence (more than a traditional Helles, but a bit lighter than this one). May become a pet project of mine.

Just having one of these now. Had one of my own German Pilsner first. Makes me wish I had hopped mine more aggressively. Nice beer.

In speaking with one of the owners I strongly suspect that subsequent bruise of this beer will have a reduced hop presence.
