I remember some horrible bottles that were being sold in Hali when Sea Level first started bottling. They were undrinkable. But I generally only drink it at the Port Pub, and I've never had a bad beer there. I really like his lager that he makes sometimes. I've had a few growlers of Blue Heron over the last year or two -- all good. I've never had their beer on tap at another pub, though.

I think Jeff would say that the Keefe's doesn't have the D problem any more, but that it used to. On that side note, the last time I was at the Henry House, the Dry Hopped tasted exactly like a good English cask beer. It did not have any of that smoky phenolic it sometimes (often?) has... I wanted to drink it all night.

I don't consider it a defect at the levels of what I've had from Sea Level or Picaroons.
I'm fine with diacetyl in an English Bitter, and Picaroon's and Sea Level's have always been good when I've had them. It's when all their other beers start tasting like English Bitter that it gets to me. Now, it must be three years since I had a Picaroons, and the one visit I got to a bar that should have had it on tap, they were fresh out...

This.

The last time I bought the Sea Level line-up at Bishop's, the Mojo, Porter, and BH, all had the same D-level, which wasn't insignificant. It gives the impression that it's not a 'style appropriate' feature in the one beer, but a quality control issue overall.

Have you (or anyone else) been to the Rare Bird lately? Pondering a drive in that direction next week.

I went there for a story in the fall, but not since. The beers were clean, but lacked a certain amount of tasty little cone-like vegetable matter. They needed at least one beer for hopheads. I gave that feedback, so that may have changed by now.

If you do go, eat at Desbarres Manor. WOW!

Gave Flying Monkeys' Smashbomb Atomic IPA a try tonight. Nice beer, hoppy, resiny, and a pretty solid malt backbone to it. It's a month old, as per the printed bottled-on date on the neck of the beer (props to the brewery for doing that much). Although I'm enjoying it, I always have to ask myself with hop-bombs if it's really any better than getting a few pints of Nash-brewed beer from Rockbottom or H&T. In this case...no, not quite.

I'm having some wheat beer, and had some bock and some vienna lager after bottling last month's amber ale. Take that, this week.

brewhouse cream ale with a possible hint of diacetyl... :(

I'm too early in my brewing career to throw out beer

I will have an AG batch brewed before the end of the summer
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

There's nothing wrong with a "hint of diacetyl". That's called "character". It's when diacetyl defines all your beers that you have a problem.

Many L'abri de la Tempete. There's nothing else decent on the Magdalen Islands at all.

I've occasionally had a bottle of diacetyl with a hint of Picarroons. Is that okay?

congrats!
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
