Yeah a friend of mine from St. John did that, and probably still does ( he was a cheep ass when it came to beer), I believe he added clamatto to his swill to prevent any thirsty hands from swiping his glass before he drank it first.

Apparently, this is the building:

Another pic. Looks like a really nice building. Apparently it was going to be torn down... :o

Nice to see that a building with some history was saved. Beautiful location.

Yeah, but the buildings on that street tend to have tidal basements. That could make for an interesting house flavour.

The salt's not to improve the flavour (though it probably didn't hurt :-)), though I doubt most of the old-timers who did that knew exactly why they did it. It was to release some of the CO2, because the beer was always over-carbed.

hey, who are you calling an old timer? :rocky:

My buddy still does add salt sometimes when he can't see any bubbles rising in his beer, although recently at the Yellow Belly he didn't because the beer
was a lot darker than he is used to... Even Liam saw his expression when he was drinking a Red that IMO was on the mild side.

Rockbottom will be selling growlers, probably in a month or two.

Yeah, I'm so glad this building got saved. I was heartbroken when I heard it was going to be turned down. The SO and I always talked about how great it would be to turn it into a brewery/bakery. Glad I don't have to lose all my life savings in the future, and someone else gets to.

Also, can't wait for the R.B. growlers. Going to move a lot more volume, I predict.

yup, he was having difficulty getting it down  it was a decent red actually, but the flavour was mild enough that i dont know how it could have bothered anyone

Very good news about the building & the RB growlers.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

It's going to be a bit of a different set-up though. You won't be walking in and getting a growler filled on demand. But it's better than the alternative.

Seems like I heard one time that growlers had to be purchased through a separate entrance or something like that. Is Nash just going to be hanging out in that little rape alley where all the green bins are dealing out growlers to all of us like we're a bunch of crack heads? I wouldn't want it any other way frankly :spilly:

Can you purchase the Growlers separately from the rape or is it a package deal?

Paddy's Pub in Wolfville has been selling growlers of its brews out a back door from the kitchen for a while now. The setup sounds shady the way it was described to me but that's what they have to do to meet the new growler rules.

Package deal! Think of it as buy a growler, get a free rape.

It was the same sort of deal when I visited Rudders in Yarmouth a year or two ago. The Port Pub also sort of operates a similar way. Seems foolish to me and I was assuming it's changed for the Rockbottom to do this. Unless my sarcastic rape alley remark is the case - realistically where else could you go at that place for a second entrance?

It's not going to be out of the main pub. IIRC, it might be at the bottom of the stairs...there's still some reallllly dumb laws in force.

I believe that the Port Pub and Sealevel Brewery are separate businesses occupying the same building, but with no internal connections. As such, Sealevel sells its beer to the Port.

Actually, I understand from Nash that these are just rules that the bureaucrats are making up as they go along. I doubt anything specifically about this is written in law.

On a related note I see that Brewdebakers is offering growlers now. I think it's $21 for the growler and first fill. Not sure what refills are but the server said was about $8 and only done in the beer store. Sleeman only of course.
