Tried this last night and ended up pouring it down the drain. Didn't enjoy it at all.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

I read that you should harvest the spruce tips in late spring - taking the new growth from the trees (which are a distinctly paler color at that time of the season).
Which is when I harvested mine. I am in the process of carb'ing up a few dozen of them that I made a few weeks ago.
Too bad I can't get one to compare to my own.

Tried it yesterday. Certainly different, but I enjoyed it

Tried this two nights ago and I really liked it. It was much more subtle and easier drinking then I expected. I also tried their 15 anniversary malt and liked it as well. Surprised from both since I am not usually into higher alcohol beer (I hated the Garrison Winter Warmer).

That can probably be arranged.Tony L wrote:Which is when I harvested mine. I am in the process of carb'ing up a few dozen of them that I made a few weeks ago.

Re: Garrison Spruce Beer
I bought 6 last year and tried one the first night. I didn't like it, thought it was terrible. So I threw them in the fridge and left them. Coincidentally I pulled one out last week (not knowing or remembering about this years release) and I tried it again. The difference was amazing. I really liked it this time and it was totally different from what I remembered. So today I bought 5, one for me to try and not like tonight, and the rest to cellar.

I think I still have one from the first year. Maybe I should try it.

Re: Garrison Spruce Beer
I had a 2011 yesterday as well and really enjoyed it. I'm yet to try this years version.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
