I was thinking of heading to Gahan for a pint or two after work but I ended up coming home first. I'm still on the fence... tomorrow's a possibility too.

Anyone know if they'll fill Brewnosers Growlers?

I'm heading there with my family tomorrow probably around lunch time. We'll be in the city for a few of hours.

My wife and I enjoyed our meals. Fish and chips, muscles, and some potatoes chips. Kids shared chicken and fries. However my growler was flat.

Hopefully they recover from the initial slow service. I'm not sure the Stubborn Goat ever did.

I had Karen's Black IPA last week. It was good, but it was more of a hoppy brown. A bit roasty, not much aroma...

The black IPA is a seasonal from PEI, something tells me she didn't brew it.

I had it and I enjoyed the Hippy IPA much more.

Sent from the brew timer.

According to Gahan, they will fill any growler, and any size...
All growlers! We'll never turn away someone who wants to enjoy our brew @thebrewnosers
64 oz sizes are preferable, but we can fill anything @Toni_Abdo @thebrewnosers

I e-mailed the LC to find out what their growler policy is, without discussing any specific places of course.

I stumbled across a link to the policy on the forums, but it's vague on allowed sizes. It only says that a typical growler is 1.8-2.0 litres. I know Tatamagouche will fill any size, but they're not a brewpub.

http://www.novascotia.ca/snsmr/pdf/agd- ... owlers.PDF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The way I read it, the liquor licensed establishment tells the AGD what size growlers they want to use. Does that mean they have to offer 650mL/750mL/1L/1.89L growlers for sale in order to be allowed to refill them? Who knows. I'll post if I find out more. Personally, needing different sizes for different breweries/brewpubs annoys me.

They could rent an empty keg and tap, and sell ten filled growlers with an instruction sheet. But they can't fill kegs.

The way it's been explained to me is that they can fill any container they want for home consumption. The only restriction is that it needs to have a clear marking for volume. They must report all sales for excise tax purposes. Many breweries will only fill a standard size (1.89L, e.g.) or a few standard sizes for (likely) POS-related reasons. There's nothing stopping them from having a "$0.50/100mL" policy and charging you on that basis, except for practical considerations. Now, I could be misunderstanding the policy - there may be maximum size limits involved.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Lordy lordy....

Microbreweries can fill anything. Brewpubs have only been approved to fill 1.8-2.0 L jug called a growler. Least ways that's what they told me when I called to axe about selling party kegs. Again, microbreweries can fill basically anything, even a tanker truck.
