July Brewnosers Alternate Tasting / Party

Post by ajcarp » Wed Jul 13, 2011 3:51 pm

Thought we would try something a little different for this month's alternate tasting since we live a bit out of the normal tasting area.

Date: Friday, July 22nd.
Time: 1st pour & food starts at 5:30 pm.
Main Tasting & continuing food - 7 pm
Last Bus back to town - 8:20 pm
Last Pour - Whenever everything is empty
Where: 25 minutes from the rotary in Sambro Head at 34 Atlantic View Drive (see maps below)

:flippindude:

Since we'd like to offer the opportunity for those who'd like to take the bus, and the last bus back to town is pretty early, we are going to start early and therefore are going to provide food, BBQ style. Think brats, ribs and chicken, as well as a couple sides. Please drop us an email if you think your going to make it so we have enough. The more the merrier -- bring your significant other, and come even if you haven't rsvp'ed.
:welcome:

My coffee porter will be on tap, and the beers we will contribute to the tasting include: Great Divide's Belgica and Hercules DIPA, Gordash (FL) Holy Mackerel Imperial Black Ale( w/ Pomegranate juice!), New Holland's el Mole Ocho.
You are encouraged to bring the standard tasting compliment of two beers each (homebrew bottles or keg, or unusual commercial) to contribute to the quaffing extravaganza.

I will also post this into the BN forum and if a few of you want to get together a car pool or two, head over there to see what you can line up.

As I mentioned, you can also get here on the Sambro Community Service bus, schedule and map at:
http://www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/Sche ... #community" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It leaves from the South Centre Mall in Spryfield, which can be reached using either the 14 or 20 from downtown, or the 19 from Mumford Terminal. To get here at 5:30, you would catch the 5 PM bus to Sambro (just ask the driver to let you off at Atlantic View Dr). For example, you could catch the 20 at Barrington & Duke at 4:10, which would get you to the South Centre Mall about 4:45 to catch the 5 PM Sambro Community bus.

We also have an extra bed, a queen air mattress and lots of floor and space if you want/need to crash here.

We are looking forward to having a crew of fellow beer lovers over for a summer evening on our oceanfront deck, and sadly underutilized party room. Hope you can make it.

Sounds good. I'll have to see what my people have planned that week.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Looking forward to it, carps! And I will make sure EZ comes too. Besides a few beers, can we bring some meat or sides or something?
And (I hate to even bring it up), but is this an all-weather event?

We'll probably be driving, so we could bring a body or three to/from the South Centre Mall.

We would be glad to see you and EZ. X)

It is an all weather event. We have a large, currently unused party room downstairs, with the deck right above the door so that one can BBQ in bad weather. :shitstorm:

Of course, if it is nice, our backyard is oceanside. You could go swimming.

Anyone that has a BBQ side they are particularly proud of, is welcome to bring it along as well. I'm sure you will have something good from your beer collection to add as well.

See you here!!

I believe that one of his people is a dog. Speaking of which (sort of) if the party has to move indoors does kitty have other plans for the night?

What's the ocean temperature these days?

I am hoping to attend this. Anyone from the Bayer's Lake/Central Halifax area driving over? I think taking a series of buses from Bayer's lake would be a mess.

I would preferably like to avoid arriving in time for a quick pint and then running for the last bus back :)

I'm 99% sure I can make it. See you Friday! Further to what Sean said, is anyone driving out from the peninsula? I could meet at the rotary if someone is crossing through there and willing to give me a lift. Otherwise, the bus it is!
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

If you can get to Spryfield, I can get you the rest of the way.

Spryfield is bikeable! At least... On the way there. But yes, I can get there, either by bike or bus. What time?

BBQ kicks off at 5:30, and it's about 20min from my house.
Is 5 feasible? Or shortly thereafter?
Sean, how about you?
I could meet you at the rotary to save your legs some punishment.

I don't mind the hill. At least there'd be a place to leave my bike. 5 works.

I will see if work terribly minds me leaving early on Friday, but I can probably make it to the Mumford/Rotary area for 5ish.

I guess more importantly, who is heading back towards Halifax/Dartmouth at the end of the night? If there are a bunch, but no driver, splitting a cab might be a feasible venture.

Tim, it would be better if you could pick up Sean at work to save him busing time and save Chris from going through the rotary. Is Friday your EDO or are you coming from work?

Crystal doesn't get home til after 5, so we probably won't get going til 5:30ish, so probably 5:50ish before we hit the rotary. Will you be able to make it to the rotary by then Sean?

I can get home by that time, which would probably be a bit easier to pick me up from.

Ben, KMcK and Sean:
I am currently in St. John's, and had been hoping to fly home Thursday night. That ain't going to happen, so I'm not going to be landing in Halifax until 6. If you were hoping to be out there earlier, it would be a good idea to catch a lift with someone else (anyone offering?). If not, I can still drive out, but probably won't be in Spryfield until closer to 7 (which means at the meeting at 7:30). Sorry for the last minute change of plans, but the working I'm doing here took a turn for the worse, and the flights home are not at great times.

Chris,

No worries, from us anyway, about you and EZ pulling in later. We will save some food and drink for you when you get here after a long days journey. :beer2:

Sean, Ben, Kyle
If you can't reroute with Tim, remember, you could still ride the bus out and get a ride back into town with the latecomers, probably. http://www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/Sche ... #community" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
