DIY eBrew ventilation
I run my electric brewery in my garage, I got tired of the cold with the door open and the humidity without it so I decided to rig up some ventilation.
Picked up a cheap(ish) 6" inline fan off ebay. (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/4-6-8-10-12-Inch ... OC:CA:3160" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
I have limited clearance for my garage door so I used some low profile (3"x10") stack duct and crudely cut a hole (plan to fix it up, but wanted to try it first). Ran it today and it worked pretty well, plenty of ventilation and minimal condensation (the odd drop, I may insulate or add something to catch the condensation).
Thought I'd post it in-case anyone else is looking for ideas.

Looks good. Have you tried it yet? Does it pull the steam over and take it out? looks like it might do the trick.

The BK is directly below the hole. Gets all the steam directed within a foot of the hole I'd say. Wouldn't trust it to collect all much further then that. Would be better lower, but I couldn't make that work.

Do you have any concerns about the propane fumes? or do you think that extractor fan will deal with that. It will need to pull some air into the garage to function well, Could have the door open an inch, would still be warm in there with the burner going.

I think he has zero worries of propane fumes with his electric setup lol.GuingesRock wrote:Do you have any concerns about the propane fumes? or do you think that extractor fan will deal with that. I really like this idea, my house is just sweating when I brew indoors. Afterwards I need to run the dehumidifier. Where you still get some condenstation , have you looked at possibly a removable extension that would get you closer to the top of the pot. Something you could slide in place and remove when not in use?AllanMar wrote: I have limited clearance for my garage door so I used some low profile (3"x10") stack duct and crudely cut a hole (plan to fix it up, but wanted to try it first). A removable extension was my original plan, seems like a waste sucking all that good air out with the steam. I couldn't quickly find something to gear it up just yet though. I'm pretty happy with how this is working so I may leave it (undecided).Keith wrote: I really like this idea, my house is just sweating when I brew indoors. Afterwards I need to run the dehumidifier. The condensation I still get is in the vent duct itself when the steam hits the cold metal, and a little from the fan (odd drop comes out now and then), the garage has no excess condensation/humidity as far as I can tell. It's pretty minimal condensation, although it wasn't real cold yesterday.
