New Yorker Craft Beer Infographic
Neat infographic on US craftbrewers from the New Yorker. I wonder how Nova Scotia would stack in in terms of number of micros per capita? http://www.newyorker.com/sandbox/business/beer.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: New Yorker Craft Beer Infographic
Assuming they don't include cider makers, my count gives 13 NS Craft Brewers. Divide that by our population and we've got about 7.05 breweries per 500,000 people, which would put us just behind New Hampshire which has 7.2 and sits in 11th place among the states. Given the small population though, only 1 more brewery and NS would sit ahead of Wisconsin which is in 10th at 7.3.

So based on today's Herald article there are now 15 - 11 actual micros and 4 Brewpubs. That brings NS to 8.1, ahead of Wisconsin but still behind Idaho which sits in 9th with 9.2.

Re: New Yorker Craft Beer Infographic
Since Wedge seems interested, I looked at the numbers for all provinces/territories. Caveat - based on Breweries listed on Ratebeer, so this is a crowdsourced list, not a list of licenses. For NS at least, it matches license data. I'm a bit skeptical about SK given their Brewpub license situation seems to mean it's easy to get but doesn't necessarily mean a place is actually brewing their own beer - and more typically means it's not very good. But here's the data: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Essentially NS comes 3rd in Canada, up from 4th in 2010 the last time I compared. That would put them 12th among all provinces and states assuming the New Yorker data is consistent with Canada's. Yukon would sit 7th after Maine at 13.9 but before Wyoming at 13.3, SK would be 9th between Washington and Idaho, and Nova Scotia would be 12th between Idaho and Wisconsin. I'm actually impressed at how well we measure up. For the most part this matches my theory around restaurant trends in Halifax - we tend to get in later on trends, but by the time we get startups, there are a bunch of them so they have to be good or they go away. Think Sushi, Thai, more recently food trucks and gourmet burgers.

Thanks for the info-crunching, Bobby! I'm also pleasantly surprised at the numbers, and how NS shapes up.
Safe to say, as of today, that only two of the craft breweries are available at the NSLC, with one or two more coming soon?
