Picaroons Yipee IPA

Post by Dummheit » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:24 pm

I had my first bottle of this and I hated it. It tasted so bitter! Did I just have a bad lot or is this how it is meant to taste?

Yeah, its supposed to have a good hop bite. Some people can't stand it, I personally am a big fan but that's just what I like. If you like a more malty brew try their blond.

Get used to it. It is how a lot of beer is supposed to taste.. at least those with hops... :lol: Some even taste more flavourful that that one. Try an Arrogant Bastard. http://www.arrogantbastard.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Heck, try one of Nash's hoppy ales.... :spilly:

Seriously though that is one tasty beer to me. I could drink that until the beer comes home.

I'm with you Tony, I LOVE Yippee and I find it's a beer that I could drink virtually every day. Can you get Yippee over on the rock?

This is my story about blind tasting some IPA's including Yippee. It is interesting how different Picaroons is. It stood out like a sore thumb. So much caramel/butterscotch, I like it tho.

I should really try this beer again. In the past I've found Picaroons to have waaaay too much butterscotch/diacetyl for my taste, including the Yipee IPA. As far as the hops go, I didn't mind it at all, though I certainly wouldn't criticize them if them wanted to use a few more finishing hops.

On tap at the Brewtique or Garrison District Ale House or Saint John Ale House, the beer is great. Even bottles in NB are great. But something about the storage in the NSLC system leads to bad bottles.

I just published this morning the "review" we did on Yippee. Well, as good as a review can get with 3 guys in the woods ;)

There were issues with the bottles on NB shelves at one point as well, but I've found that they've improved a lot since the start of this year. I've bought Yippee a number of times this year so far and it has been great each time. Hopefully they're starting to get their issues nailed down.

I get mine from NB. I didn't know it was in Hfx.

Everything about the storage in the NSLC system leads to bad bottles - and not just beer.
Currently on tap: Whiter Shade of Pale!
In keg: .
In Primary: Nothing

Do they have any temperature control in the warehouses? I've spent a decent amount of time looking at how they're laid out and optimized (on paper), but I've never checked if they have a cooling system.

I thought they had some refrigerated storage for beer.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I often find this as well... they use Ringwood yeast, so that kind of explains it, and looking at their brew logs, the beers often go from fermenter to bottle/keg pretty quickly. But maybe this varies from batch to batch, because I could have an Irish Red, for example, one day that has a boatload of diacetyl, and then have one from another batch a week later, tasting pretty clean.
