Kosher about Kolsch
All the hubbub about Kolsch...and Garrison kicks it in into high gear...it's a style I've been interested in for many years, but really haven't had much exposure to it. Hmmmm...a lagered Ale...then I tried Beaus Lug Tread and the Publicans House Kolsch (Ottawa, Peterborough and only craft beer my old lady liked thus far - she likes Keith's) and was hooked. I've read and researched about it quite a bit and believe I'm ready to give it a go. Where did a lot of taste research lead me? Well, Uncle Leo's struck out again and I will have to go get straightened out at their brewery because that's three shitty/mediocre beers in a row for me. Believe it or not and after careful consideration, the best NS approximation is Keith's regular...after all it surely ain't no IPA and uses an ale yeast and tries to simulate a Lager...and I'll bet they use two row...still in style for a Kolsch...now I know corn flakes aren't but it is definitely similar to the aforementioned and...well...maybe...just maybe...Kolsch has been under our noses in its modern incarnation for many years.

Re: Kosher about Kolsch
From BJCP for Kolsch:
The Cream Ale comparison might get you to Keith's, but overall, it has the wrong hops, not enough of them, wrong malt - though you're right 2 row vs German Pale is pretty close, I'd suspect too low an FG for the style, and just overall not clean enough for a Kolsch because it isn't conditioned long enough.Style Comparison: To the untrained taster, easily mistaken for a cream ale or somewhat subtle Pils.
