This was when I first got my fridge & keg. I've now got 2 kegs stuffed in there with the co2 and plan on adding a dual tap tower to the top pretty soon!

I've got a pretty simple kegerator. Acquired the parts over time, so it only set me back a hundred bucks or so. Waiting for my perlick tap in the mail so that I can retire the "sticky" standard one. Fits two cornys with a 5lb C02 inside. I know I get less gas out of my tank that way, but I wanted to keep it all contained inside the fridge. I got a cheapo digital thermometer from eBay and put in a chalk board in place of the door rack, presto:

Here's mine, nothing fancy. I went the cheap n easy route to keep budget down.

some paint and a collar


instead of staining the wood($$)...i decided to go with the burnt wood idea(free)...still on the fence about it, but it'll do for now. 3 taps installed at the moment(already had them lying around from previous 'lot' purchases)..will get 4 more faucets installed eventually and hope to upgrade to all perlicks.


The freezer lid was all dented in from previous owners laying heavy objects or sitting on it...with some scrap wood and picked up some moulding...i tried to make a 'granite' top...its now flat to rest beer glasses on.


The bottom wood hides the platform i built on casters...makes for easy moving and can't see the ugly casters. Still need to build a drip tray. Cheers.

Nice! Is that a 7 cu ft freezer? That's what I'm going to be building mine from.

Can I steal the burnt wood idea? Did you oil/wax the wood afterwards?

No idea on size (was only concerned it was free..haha)...but i think its about 7cu ft....fits 7 cornies total if the collar is high enough, which is why i went with such a big collar because of the compressor hump. Only thing i sealed with some varnish so far was the collar itself. Haven't had time to do the bottom or the moulding on the lid, but will eventually when i have time.

No pics of inside yet but will get some. Inside collar is lined with styrofoam, joints are all siliconed, CO2 is temporarily hooked up with a cheap PA air manifold. I have a few secondary regs to put in there, but need some LHT couplers to attach them all.

By all means, steal the burnt wood idea...you'll love the cost if you already have a torch..hahahaha. One thing i will suggest is if you're going to burn your collar, do it before attaching it to the freezer. I attached mine, then had the idea of burning..and couldn't get the torch close enough to the bottom of the collar cause it was too hot for the plastic and silicone (pics show this)

Fits three kegs nicely; I will be putting another tap in soon. Probably paint it next spring. We had a small apartment when I was in grad school in Hali, so the tiling helped me to sell the idea to my wife as a "kitchen Island". Now it's in the man den.

I wanted to go the tile route but ended up not....those real tiles or peal n stick?

Those are real tiles - I chucked the lid. I had all of the stuff on hand at the time. Everything was made from waste wood, tiles etc.

that was the biggest reason i didn't go the tile route...didn't want to buy a whole box of tile for about 6....Next time my old man does reno's, i'll snag some "leftovers" and redo the top on mine....Always loved the look..

You should be able to get cheap tiles at happy harry's.

This is my kegerator. I found the old (~1953) International Harvester fridge from Kijiji. It was already turned into a kegerator, but was in pretty bad shape. I decided to restore it. I sanded it, cleaned it, polished the chrome, plugged a hole, primed, painted, and added a clear coat. Although I only have one commercial keg at this time, it fits 2 kegs and the CO2 tank. I just ordered this past weekend a new 2 faucet system from keg connection that will include the Perlick 575ss and the taprite dual dual regulator.

Until you do, you might find the magnetic tool trays at Princess Auto do the trick. And at least they are not permanent if you decide to change it up.

I'm away so can't post pics of my setup, but I've got a regular kitchen fridge with 5 taps on the front, fridge can handle 5 corneys plus a 20lb CO2 tank, dual regulator.

what was on it for taps? just the standard faucets? keeping or selling the old ones?

Thanks it was so worth it. Yes it has standard faucets right now. The perlicks were just shipped today. I have not decided whether to sell the old ones or keep them just yet. I am thinking of restoring another retro fridge. I found another retro fridge in great condition that I am thinking about restoring and turning into a kegerator for kicks. If I sell the faucets I will let you know.
