World Cup Bracket - ESPN

Post by chicanuck » Wed Jun 11, 2014 10:50 am

Howdy Brewnosers,

For any soccer fans out there, I set up a World Cup Bracket on ESPN under the group name Brewnosers; the password is beer. You can go to ESPN, under Fantasy Games, Bracket Predictor and check out the rules, but it is the same as the NFL playoff bracket.....pick the winners in each round before the first game starts and goals scored for the tie breaker. I am just playing for fun, if you want in then let me know and I will send you an invite. Or perhaps you can join just by searching the group name Brewnosers and using beer as the password.

I would suggest we buy the winner the beer at the Rockbottom as a prize :spilly:

The first game is tomorrow at 17:00, so the game will be locked at this time.

See ya, Chicanuck

I'm in. I should have called my team John Snow because I know nothing!
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Have mine ready, good point about England, I predict that they won't qualify from their group :spilly:

I am not anti-England, but they have done poorly in these larger international events in recent history.....last win was 1966 I believe.

Only 3 people so far and the first game kicks off in a few hours......I would have guessed there were more soccer fans in the group.

Yeah, Costa Rica were impressive, and Uruguay equally unimpressive, very shaky in the defence.

Columbia played some good football yesterday as well.

Dangit, haven't checked in for a while and I've missed out. Good luck all!

4-0 Germany over Portugal today, ouch!
I watched the USA-Ghana game today, quite exciting.

Well that's a bracket buster!

I think I took Spain to repeat as champs and I also gave Greece way too much credit with advancing past the group round......I would say that I know nothing about soccer and I am comfortable with that fact.

At least I had England pegged correctly.

here's me tonight:

"too ra loo ra. Let me just login in here and check my world cup brack... oh my sweet baby Jeebus! What kind of clusterfuck is this!? OK, maybe Ivory Coast and Ghana were a bit of a stretch... at least I didn't pick Spain to win it"

It is somehow still pretty close with Liverdance leading the way. Unfortunately I took Spain to win it all again......opps, and Portugal, Italy and Russia to all advance....double opps. I also didn't pick that buck toothed shit-idiot to chomp down on the Italian defender......what is going on in Uruguay to accept that nonsense, wasn't that his third biting incident?

Anyway, it is the "World's Game" and as North American's; I don't think we are suppose to understand.

It's only the world's game for marketing purposes. Some of those African and Asian teams are not on par with European countries not in the tournament.

I agree the term world's game is complete marketing but it is hard to argue with the number of countries that claim soccer is their primary sport. I guess if one wanted to argue human population as it relates to a primary sport, India has ~1 billion people that seem to love cricket but with only a handful of countries playing the game.....not really a "world sport". I guess I am more fascinated at why so many countries love the game of soccer, you would think a game like rugby would be more popular. Same area required, same costs associated with it for poorer countries (i.e. ball, shoes and grass), you can use your hands and your feet.....anyway, perhaps it is too violent for the much softer modern day human.

I think the physical aftermath of rugby is too great compared to soccer.

I was comparing rugby to soccer from a social economical standpoint, I agree it is too aggressive and/or violent for most people. I for one love violence in my sport viewing, perhaps why I love Aussie rules football so much.
