Rum lover relatively new to beer
Hello all,
I'm a rum lover that is relatively new to beer (4 years). I don't currently brew but am interested in the process, varieties and, of course, the tasting! Excited about the group buys, only 4 more posts!
Some beers/ales I enjoy:
Chimay Reserve Trappist Ale (My latest favorite)
Hoegaarden
Erdinger Weißbier
Blue Moon
Heinekin
Sapporo
Keiths Cascade Hops
Blanche de Chambly
Rickards White
Pabst Blue Ribbon
Pumphouse Blueberry Ale
Shock Top Belgian White Ale
St Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale
Cheers!
Craig

Beer is in the running for the healthiest of all alcoholic beverages. It has antibiotic, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties. It has been proven that drinking up to 3 beers a day decreases your risk of heart disease by around 30% and it also lowers your risk of getting diseases like diabetes. Beer is also chock full of important vitamins and minerals that you need to survive.

Welcome aboard!
I see your list has a lot of light coloured beer, have you tried any Imperial Stout or Barrel-Aged beers? Some of them will give you some of the same qualities of rum or whiskies.

I tried Guinness years ago and couldn't get into it but my tastes have changed since then so I'll likely give it another go. Can't say I've tried any other stouts. I've tried Innis & Gunn Rum Finish Ale but wasn't so hot on it.chalmers wrote:Welcome aboard!

Re: Rum lover relatively new to beer
A friend brought over a bottle of Traquair Bear Ale tonight. It wasn't too bad but I don't think I'd have it again. I haven't developed a taste for bitter beers/ales and I was picking up some bitterness on the edges of my tongue but not so much when it was washing over the middle of my tongue. Also had a Stutz Apple Cider tonight in a can. I've had Stutz in bottles before, and have enjoyed it, but it had a bit of a pine sap flavour in the can. Not sure if this is typical of their cider when canned or if it may have been an off batch.
I like trying different rums/beers/ciders/wines. I don't have many regulars of anything that are always on hand. I don't travel often but when I do I always bring back something I can't get at home. I'm not interested in cheap deals. I'm in it for the variety.

Re: Rum lover relatively new to beer

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
