Canadian Homebrewer of The Year
So, do any of you guys ( or gals ) enter in national competitions? I haven't seen any medals won by Brewnosers
in any of the competitions that award points toward the Canadian Homebrewer of The Year. They also show
club accumulated points. http://www.canadianbreweroftheyear.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Last year the Fredericton Craft Brewers
Association got a few points. As the Members of Barleyment was the first Canadian club I joined, I enter as
a Mobster.
I know a lot of good brewers don't enter competitions, and probably feel it's a waste to time, money and good home brew,
but I love the competitions. I love getting good feedback from judges. I feel it has helped me improve as a brewer over
the years, along with reading a few good books and haunting forums.
Cheers

Some guys here do enter. Andy for sure. I have been trying to promote competitions, but my time always seemed so stretched to do these things the way oi want to do them.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

I just fill a couple of bottles from any of the kegs I have on tap at any time using my beer gun. I usually enter 2 entries for each comp, and rarelymr x wrote:Some guys here do enter. Andy for sure. enter the same beer twice. I have tried to get my buddies to enter, but only a couple have done so yet. They make great beer and I'm sure they
will eventually win a medal.
I see Andy won a bronze for a wheat in the GCHC this year. I won a bronze also for an APA. it's unfortunate that the CABA don't count winnings
in their comps toward the Canadian Homebrewer of the Year.

Still waiting for my scoresheets (& medal), but I do try to keep track of when there are any Canadian or New England competitions - the GCHC was only the second I've entered besides the Garrison Brew Off. If I've got something already brewed & I think I did a good job I'll send it in. I'm more interested in the scoresheets than anything else.

Congrats!
My third medal this year. Got a bronze for a Vienna in Calgary and a gold in Montreal for a Helles. Still waiting for the sheets from the GCHC and the MMM
as well as the medals and any swag. I got a ton of stuff for a silver at last year's GCHC.
If you don't enter you don't win. I haven't bothered to enter in and comps in the states due to getting HB accross the border. I have a good buddy who lives in Prospect Bay that would do it for me as he frequently travells to the states on business, but I wouldn't bother him unless it was absolutly nesessary. Like winning
a place in the NHC.

Care to share your recipe? I'm planning on brewing a Pale Ale this Friday, but don't have a solid, tried & true recipe. Or feel free to offer comments/criticism on my recipe index.phphere.

I could hook you up with some Citra if you really wanted some.

Thanks, but I wanna brew it up Friday. I'm sure there's something in my freezer that will make an X-Style 'improvement' to Tony's recipemr x wrote:I could hook you up with some Citra if you really wanted some.

Just yanking your chain lol.
You can sub just about anything for the Citra in that recipe suitable for an APA.
