The red is very nice. The hops pop at first but the malt comes back on the finish. I had to drink the third to be sure it was good.

Sampled both the red and the pale down at the market this morning. Like Sandy said, in the red the hops pop at the beginning with a malty finish. I really like the pale as well - citrus and floral, with a really clean finish. Got a 1L flip top of each. They say they will be at the market each weekend for bottle exchange/refill.

Re: Boxing Rock Brewery Opening in Shelburne
I've really enjoyed both beers I've had so far
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Anyone try the DIPA? Might not even be out yet, but I read it's supposed to be at Premier today.

It's in the city now. Just picked this up at Cristal in Bedford.

Yeah, I've been pretty impressed with the first two. Interested on how they did with the DIPA.

I don't find the prices crazy either, $5 for the bomber of IIPA

I'm disappointed in the IIPA, I find it undercarbed and under attenuated. It has promise though, good hop presence and a good malt profile. Hopefully the next batch improves.

Jeff and I did, from a growler. Similar comments to what I've seen here. I imagine the next batch will be better. Definitely not a good beer for a hot summer day...but then again, no DIPA is, in my opinion.

I picked up a bottle of the IIPA last night. I poured enough for judging practice and it was flat. I've recapped it to return it to Harvest Wines. I can't really say much about it until I get a properly bottled version.

Re: Boxing Rock Brewery Opening in Shelburne
Bottle #2 of Vicar's Cross was still way too undercarbonated, but there was some there compared to the first bottle (I haven't heard back from the brewery about this). Bottling date was July 13th. I wonder if the problem has to do with the fact they are using twist off caps on non-twist off large bottles? I've gotten away with doing this before though. As Liverdance said, undercarbed and underattenuated. Bittering seems low for a DIPA but it may be due to the heavy sweetness and low carbonation hiding the hop bitterness. The beer needs work but has potential as a British style, more malt balanced DIPA. I didn't get very much dry hop aromas or flavours. Seems loaded with low to mid coloured crystal malts (toffee, caramel) but again, this may be due to the underattenuation. I'll try this again in a few months when they get things figured out.

Considering they had a guy in for a month who was supposed to be their consultant...anyway, you can see where this is going.

Maybe they took their concept of a DIPA that wasn't like any other DIPA a bit too far.

Re: Boxing Rock Brewery Opening in Shelburne
I'm trying a bottle tonight, and I agree with the comments above. Under carb'ed, quite sweet, and generally a low hop presence for what you would expect for a DIPA (according to the guidelines and my experience with others there should be "High to absurdly high hop bitterness".
One positive note however, is the alcohol hotness. For an 8.5% beer it is in check. Also another bonus compared to some other NS micro's is the lack of diacetyl (well, undetectable by me anyway).
Overall, I will finish this bottle, but I won't buy this one again in its current form. Once they fine-tune the sweetness and the carbonation I'm sure this will be a fine beer.
