Agreed. Definitely a good way to show off brewing technique if you can brew a really good example of a Lite Lager.Barr wrote:Brewing a light lager with a little honey malt. I find that these light beers are great practice because there is no place for imperfections to hide like in those hoppy or dark beers. No my favourite to drink but I'm sure it won't go to waste. Summer is coming eventually isn't it?

I just mashed in on my Rye'd The Walrus Pale Ale. Hoping for an early brewday tomorrow so I can convince the wife that I should brew 10G of lawnmower beer on Saturday

Hoping to get through three brews with the family away this weekend. A mystery mild using up some miscellaneous grains, Everyday IPA and the Bees Knees Pale Ale. Hoping for a little cooperation from the weather.

Weather hasn't really cooperated so far this weekend. Mild and IPA were done in the downpours on Saturday. Just mashed in for Bees Knees Pale Ale - hoping for a little better weather today.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I grabbed grains, hops and yeast at Noble Grape yesterday without preparing a recipe before hand. Got to plug them in to BrewTarget today to get a nice summer pale ale. Hoppy but not too bitter. Cascade, Citra and Amarillo for the hops. 2-Row with a bit of Maris Otter and Crystal 30 for the grains.

Friday was a little American ale with nothing but sorachi, Saturday was an English ipa , Sunday was a American wheat and today is a quick little every day ipa from the recipe section here. Been a bitch to brew in this weather tho!

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Actually hoping for a rainy day tomorrow so I don't feel like I should be doing yard work instead of brewing. Going to do up a Centennial based version of the recipe Bee's Knees has morphed into (much simpler grain bill and lower ABV).

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
It went great! The cooler biab system worked well, but I really wish I hadn't exploded my hydrometer while taking a reading off of the mash. This is the third hydrometer I've killed, and this latest one I only had for 4 days.
Still, the reading was good and it smells like beer! Now to see what the yeast think of it.
I see a refractometer in my future.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Realized that I can't let this beauty of an evening go to waste so I went home at lunch and mashed in on a Kolsch. Giving the full volume mash in a cooler method a try, aka Jimmy's setup
I'm interested in seeing the results
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
