Kegging and fruit flies?
As I'm getting ready to set up my kegerator, I'm wondering how much of an issue fruit flies are going to be. It seems to be impossible to get through the summer without having them move in at some point. I wish I had ordered one of these when I was getting the rest of my stuff from OBK (NG doesn't carry them):

What do most people do to control this issue, or is it not really an issue at all?
Thanks!

NG may have them. But I keep a spray bottle of sanitizer and a towel to cleanup after every pour.

I've got the tap caps as well but they're kind of a pain as they gunk up the ends of the taps a bit.

I guess I'll go with the spray bottle of starsan since it's already sitting next to the keezer anyway. You'd think science would find a way to eliminate fruit flies once and for all.

They also add a mild earthy sort of flavour to the beer as well.

I use star san along with cheap balloons from the dollar store. I bought those tap covers and they were too big for my tap.

While I'll be carrying the Tap Caps, I'll also be carrying this product, which solves the problem of the goo-ing up of the spout that the Tap Caps sometime cause. at the base of the brush by the handle there is a plug, so they fit snug into the tap. I should be getting these in by end of May

Dave will you be carrying taps?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'll be putting an OBK group buy together around the end of the month, I have some stuff to grab, so if you do still plan to go that route keep your eyes on the forum.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Yes, I'll be starting with standard Chrome taps at a very reasonable (>$15) and in a couple of months I'll be carrying Perlicks as well as stainless versions of the standard taps.LiverDance wrote:Dave will you be carrying taps?
