It really seems it's going to hell extra fast the past 6 months or so, doesn't it?

I think overall, things are getting better. Sure, there are shitty days and shitty people, but I'm very optimistic.

Chris, you're definitely a glass is half (or even, mostly)-full kind of guy!

I think it definitely feels worse mostly because of a lot that's happened lately with violence and kids... but I'm digressing big time.

hmmmm, I just read the Dance of Red link in the Rehteah Parsons thread. I've never been more mortified about life in Nova Scotia. Seriously.

What would he say if there were a few million people dead? Because it is quite possible the people responsible want to do that.

I can't speak for him, but I'd say the same thing if there were a million dead. I have empathy for the victims and families of victims, and I realize that there is a tiny minority of the world that wants to do harm to others.
I think that the overwhelming majority of people are decent, loving, caring individuals.
I stand by my statement that life is getting for people rather than worse.

I'm with Chris. I really believe the world is slowly getting better. Sure, there are religious zealots who'd love to kill millions - but right now, we don't have a single government in the world that seems capable of it (and that includes both Iran and North Korea), which is a huge change from most of the 20th century. On the other end of the scale, violent crime rates (despite how it seems in Halifax) are steadily going down across North America.

We have morons supporting rapists - but we have high school students pledging not to let it happen again. In my day, the kids aided and abetted - either by participating or staying quiet.

I think sometimes it seems like things are getting worse because in the information age we hear about everything that happens immediately. But I think history shows that people have been finding crazy excuses to hurt other people for most of human history. Hopefully more knowledge of all the shitty things that go on will lead to improvement.

We have a very different view of what happened and is now happening. Your day appears to be our day.

A tiny minority can do a lot of damage. It doesn't matter if there's many good people.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'm with X - betting he blows himself up before they get him. Hope the boat owner has a bit of insurance!

He's definitely loving being in front of the camera. Not sure about the guy in the pic above though…
