New to Home Brew, looking for starter kit

So I am just getting started with brewing and came across this board tonight. I was going to go looking at equipment this week (weather permitting) but thought I would see if people here have any old equipment they are trying to get rid of.

As of right now I have no equipment so am looking for a small starter system, or will get individual pieces. I am looking to both bottle and keg (eventually). Located in Summerside PEI, but I do travel to Halifax occasionally as well. Any help would be appreciated, or if you could point me in a good direction

Kijiji is a good spot to find used equipment

Keg setup with bucket & carboy

Or you can buy from a local shop - I believe you have a Wine Kitz store over there? The equipment in a wine making kit is the same as beer kits, so Wine Kitz should be able to help get you started.

I contacted both of them before posting actually lol. I did not think of Wine Kitz though, next time I am in Charlottetown I will have to take a look there. I am hoping the Keg post on Kijiji is a decent price, I wasn't even sure how much to offer him.

There is a PEI group here who may be of assistance for local needs. Did you find us by google searching?

Get an new bucket and follow all sanatation instructions. Same with tubing and transfer gear. Glass gear can be soaked/rinced and bleached/rinced.

Yes I did find the site from google, oddly enough I wasn't even searching for a local message board. There is a beer/wine store in Bedeque, does anyone know if they carrier much equipment?

If you're up the Halifax way, the Noble Grape often has intro kits deals where they throw in a free FestaBrew kit. When those happen, they're about the best way to get in. Be worth calling them to see if they either have one on or would be willing to extend you a similar offer out of season. You won't get a kettle in those deals, but pretty much everything else you need (and if you're starting with kit brewing, everything you need).

Kettle is not a problem, I have a nice big burner and some industrial kitchen pots and equipment. I am not in Halifax for another month or more and was hoping to get started before then, if I don't find anything before then I will likely pick it up at Noble Grape. I have contacted a few people on Kijiji already so I am sitting with my fingers crossed.

Welcome Denis! There are quite a few of us in Charlottetown. We get together on the 2nd Tuesday of every month for a beer tasting. The next one will be April 9 and the location is TBD.

What styles of beer do you plan on brewing?

I am going to start with some lighter beers Cream ale, Blonde Ale, IPA as those are the style I generally drink. Once I build up a little stock I will start playing around and making styles I don't normally drink to try them out and see if I enjoy them.
