Word has it they will be supplying a few local places with kegs to have on tap.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Maybe it's just me, but I get an 'upper canadian' vibe from this place.....

They are located a decent distance out of the town of Baddeck (but I know what you mean about that). As they aren't from the area they'd be seen as come-from-aways there anyway.

I'm heading down (up for you geographically correct types) for Easter this year and hoping they are selling the brew by that time.

They'll have their beer at a couple of bars/restaurants in Halifax at launch (or pretty damn close to launch), and Sydney and the rest of CB, too. Growlers are coming later.

Microbrewery on tap in Nyanza
Published on March 13, 2013
Elizabeth Patterson

NYANZA — With whisky, rum, wine and mead already being produced on Cape Breton, it should come as no surprise that the island’s only microbrewery is now well on its way to serving up some suds in less than a month.
Topics : Kitchen Party Pale Ale , Baddeck Yacht Club , Atlantic Canada , Cape Breton , Nyanza
Big Spruce Brewing has begun officially brewing their Kitchen Party Pale Ale and an oatmeal stout named Cereal Killer at their Yankee Line farm and 800 litre facility. They’ve consulted with a British Columbia farm brewery and even brought in a brewing consultant to help. But if creating their own beers wasn’t enough, owners Jeremy and Melanie White will also be organically growing their own hops at their 75-acre site as well.
“This will be Canada’s only second farmhouse operation and the first organic one in Atlantic Canada,” says Jeremy White.
White began his beer-making journey as a home brewer. Before moving back to Canada in 2010, he ran job sites for 14 years for British waste water treatment plants in Latin America. The Ontario native and his B.C.-born wife, who is a chef, had honeymooned in Cape Breton and fell in love with the area, buying a property in 2008.
“Some may see it as a glass half-empty but we saw it as an opportunity and a glass half-full kind of place just filled with possibilities,” says Jeremy.
When the couple moved here in 2010, they began growing hops more as an experiment, to see if they would even grow. The water-loving perennial thrived and they didn’t lose any of their first rhizomes.
“They grow great here,” says White. “We planted 11 varietals, thinking we would pick the best three or four but we haven’t lost one.”
While they’ve only grown about one-eighth of an acre so far, they plan to double that amount this year and then doubling that amount again next year until they have about 500 to 600 plants growing on an acre or two. Other farms in Cape Breton will also be supplying them with hops. Each beer that comes from Big Spruce will contain some organic Cape Breton-grown hops.
A soft launch of the product will take place April 6 at the Baddeck Yacht Club. The beers will be available in 50 and 20-litre kegs that will be sold mainly to restaurants and pubs. Two-litre “growlers” will also be available for those who wish to try some at home. The beer will either be delivered or available during specific hours on-site so the Whites can maintain quality control. Further details will be on their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/BigSpruceBrewing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, when they become available.
“This is unfiltered, unpasteurized beer that has to be refrigerated and because of that, we’ll be self-distributing.”
In addition to their main two brews, White says they will also do seasonal beers that will be available for only a short period of time at their farm. Some of those may include an apple beer, a potato beer and even a berry beer. Fruit-flavoured beers are popular in Europe and have a growing fan base in North America.
Later in the year, the Whites hope to open a reservation-only restaurant on the second floor of their brewery that will feature dishes paired with their beers.

Has to be refrigerated? Sounds like the outside help doesn't know much about proper sanitation...
