Why. Mine looks abused, and will look the same for years to come.

I used one can of Oregon and some organic pure juice, probably a little.

Draining the bag - 13.5" stainless collander fits great on top of the keggle. I can push straight down with my lid to extract all the wort.

Homemade thrumometer made it easy to dial in the temperature from the chiller.

I can't take credit for it - saw it somewhere in internet searching. Cost me less than $4 to make though.

I've bought all the elbows and fitting for the immersion chiller but haven't assembled it yet!

I was half thinking about getting a plate chiller, but I thought a little about it and am getting good results from my IC, so why should
I go the extra expense and have so much fooling around to keep it clean and sanitized?
I think I'll just keep what I got and save myself a hundred.

Super easy to clean and sanitize, Tony. Bake it in the oven and flush it out when you need to give it a thorough cleaning. I only do that every four or five brews, other than that, hot PBW does the trick. Sanitizing is as easy as firing it in a bucket of StarSan for a few minutes or just recirculating boiling wort through it for the last 10 minutes of the boil.

Like the sucker for punishment that I am, I'm going to brew an 11 gallon batch of an all Simcoe IIPA tomorrow with a newborn and 2 year old in the house. Got the starters going this evening—WLP001 and 051.

Well, you sure didn't stay away from brewing long did you? Nicely done buddy! :spilly:

I brew an all Simcoe DIPA recipe as well, care to post what you'll be brewing? It would be interesting to compare both of our recipes.

The recipe I'm going with is pretty similar to LD's Comfortably Numb IPA, but I added a bit of Carapils and some sugar to dry it out and I'll be mashing at 149°F.

I'm actually using the hop bill from your recipe as I had it sitting in BeerAlchemy and liked the looks of it. Jus switching the 90 minute addition to FWH since I'm only doing a 60 minute boil.

I'll dry hop one carboy with Simcoe and will hit the other with something different likely. Maybe some Mosaic.

And yeah, some brewing hiatus.

Had some friends and family over last night for UFC and almost kicked my last keg of IPA and finished off the last few bottles of Pale Ale I had kicking around. Figured if I brewed something big it might last a bit longer than something you can throw back by the pint.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
