Re: Alexander Keiths Cascade Hop
Hop series!! Well holy fuck, can it really be true?
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Re: Alexander Keiths Cascade Hop Ale
I'm surprised it isn't Chinook Hop Ale, so they could re-use the commercial Chalmers burned them on.

Re: Alexander Keiths Cascade Hop Ale
Back in the fall I did a focus group on lots of different beer for Keiths, some had no flavor at all and there was one that had a great hop taste. Maybe that one rated well and that's where it came from.

Quick search for the name reveals that over at the Bar Towel someone posted in a thread about upcoming LCBO releases both this and a Hallertau Hop Ale: http://www.bartowel.com/board/viewtopic.php?p=117758" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It will be interesting to compare the hallertauer and cascade side by side. This pic is grainy but you get the idea... It's almost like they stole our idea of the single hop tastings..lol.

Doesn't matter what hop they put in it. If they keep using adjuncts for flavouring they aren't going to win over the craft beer lovers.
On Tap:
Falconers Galaxy IPA
Simcoe SMaSH
Topaz SMaSH
Cranberry Rye Saison
Monde Souterrain (Dark Saison)

Heard from a reliable source that it will be available in kegs in March, bottles and cans in May in NS. IBU runs at around 30.
It'll be interesting to try them out.

Re: Alexander Keiths Cascade Hop Ale
Looks like they have recently experimented with a non-adjunct IPA, so this one could perhaps be all malt?!:sleepyjamie wrote:Doesn't matter what hop they put in it. If they keep using adjuncts for flavouring they aren't going to win over the craft beer lovers.

Part of the appeal here is that Keith’s has brewed a beer that is actually an IPA. It weighs in at 5.8% alcohol and is, according to a representative of the brewery, an all malt product

Its already on tap at TBS in ontario. My old boss says its selling at a medium to slow rate kind of like you'd expect a molson export to sell, maybe 30 kegs a day from the distibution center.

Re: Alexander Keiths Cascade Hop Ale
I can understand that, because there isn't really a market for it. You've got the hard core Keiths drinkers who are still going to drink their regular old Keiths "IPA" - then you have the craft beer market who will try it, but probably isn't interested in drinking it on a regular basis.dexter wrote:Its already on tap at TBS in ontario. Re: Alexander Keiths Cascade Hop Ale
Is that what big beer misses about craft beer drinkers? That we'll try anything, and while we might have a favourite couple of beers chances are if there is something we've never had available we'll likely try it before an old stand by?Jimmy wrote:I can understand that, because there isn't really a market for it. On the adjunct front, is corn a new addition to the grain bill for Keith's and Oland's? I hadn't had an Oland's in a year and got a clear sweet corn flavour from it when I had one in November. Had my palette changed that much or is it new?

I think the corn has been there since the early 60's.

IMO the bjcp should have their own team of lawyers and sue people who call ipa that are way out of the style guide.
