I've been wondering if it was worth getting a 35mm, most of my shooting is while walking around at night and I think the 35 would do the trick. I find myself finding shots I like and then walking backwards to often with the 50 to fit what I want in the frame.

I also find it better for taking shots of groups of people inside. I don't need to stand as far back as I do with the 50, handy for small/crowded rooms.

35mm is where it's at for a crop-sensor lens - almost never left my camera when I had my old d80. Now it's exactly the same for me, but with my 50 1.4 on the full-frame cam. It's right in the middle of the 'normal' focal length - you can use it for just about anything and get acceptable (or great!) results.

ethier.sc: If you're shooting walking around (assuming non people photos), you're shooting at almost an effective 85mm after the crop factor of your sensor is applied. That's the beginning of telephoto focal lengths. Great for portraits but questionably useful for landscape/street photography. Still a really good lens to own, but I find the 50 isn't that useful until you slap it on a 35mm film cam or digital equivalent.

I prefer the 24-70 over my 50 1.4. In fact I should sell that lens, it just collects dust.

Any recommendations for taking pictures of rooms? I can't seem to take interior shots that are really good.

Any tips for taking pictures for apartment ads would be appreciated really

I'd probably feel the same way if I could afford one :p

I shoot 90% portraiture anyway, but I would love to have the 24-70 for shows/events. Beast of a lens.

I thought you meant lens recommendations, hahah :p

You've gotta have a decent wide angle. An effective 24mm or wider is ideal. Try to shoot from a corner and tilt your camera in a way that finds the best balance you can between getting the whole room in without introducing too much distortion. Tripod is pretty much necessary unless it's really bright and you can stand like a statue. Don't use the flash on your camera.

Rooms are hard - it's one of the few places in photography where having fancy gear really helps.
