That's a good question....
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I generally go with a cup of table sugar for most of my beers (ales). Up to a 1/4 cup more if I feel like trying a more carbonated beer and less when I want a lower carb.
