Scorch Marks!

Post by Tim Gregory » Sun Dec 09, 2012 11:10 am

When I did my lambic a few weeks back I figured I'd be smart and mash in my kettle. That way if I didn't hit my temps with my multiple infusions (turbid mash) I could put the heat to it to get it where it needed to be.

It worked fine and I was vigilant about stirring as I heated, but I guess I missed a spot and ended up with this:

Any ideas?

Aluminum.

I read on the Homebrewtalk forms that 3M scrubby pads would work, but I thought I'd ask the real experts first.

I have some PBW if you want to try that. Soak for a while. nylon scrub brush.

Just a thought I have never had to do it, yet.

Yeah, I did that before too. Hard not to do with the thick decoctions.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Use anything but strong caustics, which eats aluminum. I'd be careful about soaking in PBW. Just use scrubby pads and arm power.
