Awesome government logic here, regarding complaints about 3000 tonnes of garbage in the streets due to a strike:
“Rubbish by itself doesn’t lead to illnesses,” Andrés Rabadán, health service chief for the province of Cádiz, told local media. “There may well be a proliferation of rats, but rodents do not enter homes while there is rubbish around.

I was in Cádiz a month ago, and when they're not on strike (they weren't at the time), garbage pickup was
daily! So, I dare say they can stand some work stoppages.

Because it's a waste of taxpayer's money. I get garbage pickup BIWEEKLY! Now, I'm perfectly happy to assume that what's acceptable in rural NS might not be a good idea in downtown Halifax, but residential garbage collection daily (and afaik, that doesn't happen _anywhere_ in Canada - certainly none of the dozen cities I've lived in) is far more frequent than necessary.

I didn't realize we were talking residential. The city's I have lived in, the core has daily for the commercial which sometimes includes the residential above.

Halifax doesn't even have commercial garbage pickup - you have to pay a private hauler.

Grizzly bear attacks couple near Kimberley, B.C.
I was worried about our friends, the Carps, knowing they're the outdoorsy types, but:
The names of the victims have not been released,... The woman is in her 60s and the man is close to 80 years of age, said police.
...that woman is far too old to be Anita.

RAmen. May His noodly appendage touch us all.
And I'd be very surprised if they weren't sued for government-sponsored religious displays.
