Nice! Only thing better then brewing your own beer is building your own brewery to do it in! :headbang:

Hehe, that depends whether I can get a brewer's license or not...
Which leads me to the next question; Does anyone know, or has anyone been through the process of getting a permit/license to sell microbrew beer here in Nova Scotia? I haven't decided yet whether I want to go full-out brewpub right away, or first try to sell kegs to established local bars/pubs and try to get my name out there first. I REALLY want a brewpub eventually, but maybe I should start small.

So, it's been awhile since I posted any updates here. Things were kind of put on hold for the winter, partly because of the weather but mostly to let my bank account cool down. Costs are starting to climb higher than I was hoping. Anyways, I'm slowly getting back at it, so I thought I'd fill you (anyone who's interested) in on where I am and how things are going.

I finished housewrapping before christmas and installed the man door downstairs. Housewrap all blew off by february.

Insulation around the foundation:

Framing in for windows. 3 downstairs, 2 upstairs.

Ready to start upstairs. (The brewery! Yay!)

Image

First, building code says that my rafter ties (ceiling joists) need to be in the bottom 1/3 of the rafters. This will give me a 5'6" ceiling. No good. I can get around the code if I build a short knee wall just inside the outer walls, essentially shortening the distance from the peak to the top of the wall.

Image

Image

Rafters tend to want to push the walls outward. The reason for the rafter ties is to do just that; tie the rafters together and keep the walls from moving outward. Since I'm moving my ties up (for headroom) making them less effective, I'll need extra support at the floor joists to tie the rafters together.

Rafter ties installed:

Upstairs door framed in:

Excavator in to backfill around the foundation:

So I guess that's it for now. 2 more windows to frame in upstairs and I'll be ready for the next inspection. Then ELECTRICAL!! :)
