DIY super easy tap handle in 15 minutes

Post by sleepyjamie » Tue Aug 28, 2012 4:09 pm

I rigged up a simple tap handle for the keezer, took about 15 minutes to make (assuming u have the materials).

1) Drill a pilot hole in the top of a handle
2) Insert screw and tighten with nut

3) Cut the wood which will be used for the face of the handle (for a test run i simply used some cheap 3/8" plywood)
4) Drill pilot hole into the wood (ensure the pilot hole is smaller sized than your screw)

4) Fit the wood on top of the screw. Secure with super glue if required.

5) Attach to tap

It's not the prettiest tap handle but its really easy, especially if you aren't very good at wood working (for people like me). And it is really cheap. Most of the materials you can find lying around the house im sure.

For better results i would choose a better quality wood, maybe add some beveled edges and stain.

Good idea. That would work nice with Robs hockey puck on top.

I was gonna go with a hockey puck but I didn't have any around and wanted to keep the costs as low as possible

I like what you put on it. I also made handles pretty much like yours except painted with chalkboard paint . Pretty inexpensive.

I like that idea, I'll be making those when I get some free time.

Yes, that was my plan too.

Great idea. I had been planning on carving a whole new handle but that makes sense to just add to the top.
Tap 1: Little Pup Pale Ale
Tap 2: Orange Ya Glad I Said Light Beer?
Tap 3: Roof Top Rye-It
Tap 4: Straberry Vanilla Wine Soda
Tap 5: Big Brown Roof Hound
