Not good indeed. I always thought going organic was a nice ideal but easier said than done. Imagine farming was your main source of income and your entire seasons work destroyed by pests, would make me want to haul out the pesticides pretty quick.

You can get very good organic pesticides, or make your own. Hydroponic stores are good place to find high quality organic stuff off the shelf. OR just google about for homemade stuff.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Slugs are a big problem for me... I've had some success with spreading egg shells around my plants, I save them all winter and cover the area but some slugs still get through... though not as bad.

BTK is considered organic (at least I'm fairly certain it is). Readily available, cheap and worked very well - although a few of my plants were already too damaged by the time I sprayed, but they're rebounding now and should be fine next year.

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/pubs/pes ... ex-eng.phpBt strains have been used by both organic and non-organic farmers throughout the world for many years. Btk is one of the few pesticides acceptable to organic growers, as it is a naturally occurring biological organism, rather than a synthetic chemical. As Btk does not survive in warm-blooded organisms, any Btk residues on food pass through the digestive system without producing any toxic effect. Btk strains are exempt from residue tolerances in the US, and exempt from maximum residue limit requirements in Canada, due to the minimal risk.
My dad bought mine at the farmer's Co-op but I'm quite confident I've seen it at Home depot and other such box stores.
