Re: The rumor and random babble thread
My point was not about not be able to get them (although that shows poor planning), but the fact that intending to run a brewery on locally grown hops will put you into CCRA in a heartbeat. At current pricing. Maybe that will change, but I'm still betting on a flood of mature hop crowns for sale in 5 years.KMcK wrote:Exactly, despite their claim of the opposite.mr x wrote:greenwashing.......
I meant that they already conceded that they can't get local hops.mr x wrote:Figured what out?

Not really confirmation, just reiteration of everything we found out. Maybe Bousquet does his research on this forum. He is a Brewnoser, in case you didn't know.

The last comment is new.
So he's brewing test batches himself, yet he's looking for a brewmaster, and nobody has ever heard of him....

Was just into Cash&Carry in NG. They sell very nice and shiny full Pepsi kegs for $44.99. Had about 20. No idea what people do with them when they are empy.....

What about New Belgium? Is that all greenwashing? Serious question, since they appear to have a pretty good model, at least for an expanding regional brewery.KMcK wrote:Sustainability is a loaded term, which means very different things to different people. They appear to be attempting to balance environmental and resource sustainability with economic (and ultimately business) sustainability. My guess is the latter will usually trump the former and the sustainability aspect will become more of a marketing gimmick than niche marketing.dean2k wrote:Their blogs and webpage sure make it sound like they are pushing the "sustainability" aspect. I'll be honest, I never heard of New Belgium before that post. However, given their location, I'd wager they have a much larger consumer base of the organic, granola-eating variety who might make that model viable. And I'm saying that with a lot of friends out west who are self-proclaimed organic, granola-eaters.BobbyOK wrote:...What about New Belgium? Is that all greenwashing? Yeah, and they aren't the only people doing that, in the US. The start-up costs for sustainable are high, and I see shoestring on the site. It looks to be gimmick to me in this case.

Hopworks is another brewery that's all about being as green as possible and sustainable: http://hopworksbeer.com/green-culture/going-green" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, though, they are in the heart of Portland, Oregan.

Don't get me wrong! There are a lot of good business reasons to divert your waste stream. Especially so if you can get compensated for your waste.

Oh, definitely. I'd rather see more info about the beer before I get exited here. It's got a 'Spearhead' feel about it, not exactly the same, but for me it's product first. Not what I see here, but it's still early....

It's just a little nanobrewery. Like Patrice's in Moncton. X brews more beer than this guy will. The guy works at Java Blend - coffee porter anyone?

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
But how is he planning on hiring a brewmaster? Me confused. But good luck to him if he can make the numbers work, and grow it. At the tiny nano size, it was way too much work for the payoff for me, unless you were using it as a short term marketing tool towards a bigger operation. Have you met him? It would be good to get him out for a brew.

Don't think the Coast article will be updated, but the new Atlantic Canada Beer Blog contacted him: he is looking for a brewmaster to give him guidance in ramping up from homebrewer to commercial brewer.

No deposit necessary? They sound like a deal, with syrup still in them. To use the syrup, do we have to push through carbonate water?mr x wrote:Was just into Cash&Carry in NG. If they are, in fact, full of (good) pepsi at that price - would you be willing to pick me up one?

Another article about the new brewery. 80,000 - 120,000L of beer a year, are the production goals for the first year.
