5000ml flasks at 19.95 are a steal. I'll take 3 if anybody jumps on it, assuming they still do USPS....

I haven't seen it yet, and won't have time. Just planning ahead. $65 shipping for 6. $50 for 4.

I'm building a few stir plates in the next month and they will be a heck of a lot cheaper than $50...

Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
Depending on how they turn out, I may offer another group build like with the temperature controllers... stand by. It will be a month before I have one that's ready to use.Fishdisease wrote:Good to know...I was considering buying one.hogie wrote:I'm building a few stir plates in the next month and they will be a heck of a lot cheaper than $50...

Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
If anyone wishes to try making their own stir plate and needs a fan, I've got plenty. Also lots of 12V supplies. All you would need to buy are some magnets and a cheap computer fan regulator off ebay. I have 3ish built now and it only cost about $5 all said and done...

Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
The one thing I have found is you must be careful how heavy the magnets are. Those ones you found on Ebay look to be too large I believe. Although, I do have some 48V, 6000RPM fans I can pass your way if you want to build a stir plate on steroids! Your yeast starter may take off like a helicopter though - I take no responsibility for that! The deal extreme magnets look closer to what I have used - although I found more than one magnet per side was necessary.

Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
The Source sells rheostats/potentiometers for about $5 and if you happen to have any dead hard drives laying around there is at least one if not two rare earth magnets on the armature of the drive that are a bit of a bitch to get off, but it'll save a bit of cash.Jayme wrote:If anyone wishes to try making their own stir plate and needs a fan, I've got plenty. Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
It probably depends on how you are building them, and how big your flask is. I use the big ones to keep the stir-bar from being tossed, and that's in lab quality units. The OEM magnets won't cut it for my 5000ml flask.Jayme wrote:The one thing I have found is you must be careful how heavy the magnets are. Those ones you found on Ebay look to be too large I believe. Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
True - I'm only using a 2000ml and put about a 1/2" spacer between the fan and the magnets to a) get the magnets as close to the flask as possible, and b) to get the magnets off the fan so as not to slow it to a crawl. I did however recently burn out the fan in my first stir plate - it was just out of a computer case so not all that powerful (maybe 0.13A if I remember correctly). I'm going to change it out when I get chance to a higher power 12V fan out of a Tektrol power supply from work. Didn't have any issues with the stir bar jumping though - only the massive amount of yeast stalling my fan. The real reason it burned out is I got lazy and just hooked it up to a 24V bench supply. Gavin walked by and saw it wasn't moving so he cranked it up to 24V... nothing like coming home to the smell of burning insulation!mr x wrote:It probably depends on how you are building them, and how big your flask is. Re: Morebeer Deal of the Day all day
On a separate note, I can't believe that they've sold a few of those "brew-structures" that are up on the deal right now...wow. $2k is still far too much for me to spend on a brew setup.
