Doesn't NS have lower tax rates on beer from in-province microbreweries? Isn't that kinda the same?

Here's a different article on the same changes... Honestly it's shitty for producers outside Alberta but it'll be better for Albertans in time, they'll get some better microbrewery maybe.

Re: Beer in the news
What's pissing people off is how it all went down. There was literally 24 hours notice that craft breweries outside of BC/AB/SK would be taxed at $1.25/liter, up from $0.25/liter. Incidentally, this is the same tax rate as Bud and Molson.CorneliusAlphonse wrote:Here's a different article on the same changes... DDC had a nice post on it, including comments to those that brought up the point that this will help local brewers.

I also don't agree that more taxes for non-local microbreweries means locals will make better beer. It just means that local microbreweries will have less competition. Also, BC is way ahead of Alberta for quality breweries, and they'll be taxed at the same rate as Alberta's breweries. Frankly, I see it as a big win for BC brewers.

I've visited a web-site from Alberta and check out the beer prices. Yikes!! Way too high. Brew your own Albertans.

I'm not sure if you think it's crappy and dumb because you were hoping it happened, or because it was so far out of the realm of possibility (or some other reason).

Re: Beer in the news
It wasn't a very good joke since I know quite a few people who have avoided buying beer from them since, based on that rumor/misinformation. Glad to find out it is not true.
Personally,I saw it mentioned it on the Beer Blog (which I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to every Friday), looked for further information and ended up attempting to decipher their twitter which I found difficult to do. I suppose I don't know those guys at all, and obviously I do not understand their brand of humor. Good beer though.
Thanks for the clarification!

Re: Beer in the news
Oh crap, I honestly didn't think folks would take that seriously, but now that you mention it, I would hate to think that people were shying away from GR because of that.
I thought it was funny, because it was so far out of the realm of possibility: ABInBev is buying up established breweries that have been going for years, I've not heard of them buying brand new ones.
Please tell your friends it was a joke!

Re: Beer in the news
The fact that people would avoid the brewery because of this is as ridiculous as the rumour itself. Buy the beer you want to drink, period.

Re: Beer in the news
The tweets were bombarding me there for a bit and I stopped following, but only because there were so many that I lost interest. I didn't get the humor, but didn't try to get it either. Twitter is more of a thing I skim through quickly, otherwise would be there all day.

Good luck to them. Would be good to try what they are putting out.
Really not a fan of the branding, though.
