This may be the interim fix. Thanks!jeffsmith wrote:I tried BrewBlogger out quite a while back. Not a bad piece of software (though not the nicest looking either). Might fit your needs.

Next spring/summer, talk to mebenwedge wrote:jeffsmith wrote:I use BeerAlchemy on both of my Macs (I sync the database using Dropbox). Very handy to have on brew day as it's got a number of different calculators built into it as well—especially the hydrometer temp. correction calc.
It's not truly a "cloud" solution but it's the best solution I've found for myself yet.
I was interested in that one, but I need something that works on Windows (Work and school). Maybe next spring/summer I'll have to just bite the bullet and build it myself. Famous last words I suppose.

Brewblogger looks like something Jimmy should consider installing here

Re: Brewing software
With reference to your posting in viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1338, why did you choose BeerAlchemy over iBrewMaster? I'm now looking for a solution that works on both iOS and OSX (preferably as far back as 4.3 and 10.4, respectively) and syncs. Dropbox works for me.jeffsmith wrote:I use BeerAlchemy on both of my Macs (I sync the database using Dropbox). I use the iOS version on my iPhone which will sync (Wifi) with either Mac. Re: Brewing software
When I started using BA there wasn't an OSX version of iBrewMaster. BA was pretty much the only show in town. I also like the design of BA quite a bit better and it's syncing options make it pretty attractive as well. But to be honest, I haven't checked to see If syncing is possible in iBrewMaster because I didn't want to pay just to try the apps out.
The iOS version of BA works great on 4.3—I use it on an iPhone 3G. I'm not sure about it on 10.4. I know that BA2 is said to be Lion-only when it's finally released.

Not a problem. Hoping to get down next weekend. Whether or not I'll have the family in tow remains to be seen.KMcK wrote:Thanks, Jeff. Let us know whenever you're in Halifax so we can go out for a beer.

I've been playing around with Bruzor a little bit for Android. Pretty decent, especially for putting recipes together, but it's not as fully featured as other software I've used. Maybe I am just not deep enough into it, but it seems like it does not do any of your calculations for you on the fly.

Re: Brewing software
Yeah, I have the "Pro" version (beta, not paid...) and found it was .... not much use. I already have a million places to keep my recipes. I want to know "x liters of water at y degrees, NOW!" (The "now" part is important. I can, and do, bring the laptop out to the garage, but I'd prefer to do that on the phone.)moxie wrote:I've been playing around with Bruzor a little bit for Android. Dredging up an old thread, this is a great brew timer for Android (should work on phones and tablets):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... imer&hl=en
Create and save timers with multiple events. Shows time remaining until each event, audible alert when event time is reached. Works really well.

Thanks for dredging it up. Seeing as how Jimmy's using it, I guess this is the one we talked about at TimG's, and I keep meaning to get the details - on its way to my phone now...Jimmy wrote:Been using this for all my brews. I agree, learning to do calculations by hand is a valuable learning experience. At the office, we require that newbies learn to do lighting calc's by hand before we let them go near our lighting software. That way they can evaluate the results of the software and ensure that the results make a bit of sense.vgoreham wrote: If you've never done the brewing calculations by hand, I'd suggest doing this for at least a brew or two - just to make you think about how things work together and the calculations these programs do. I think it helped me.

"Always know the answer before you type it in the calculator"
I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard that from my math teacher father and now at work... It's true though.
