'Real' Pumpkin beer
As per the conversation at the meeting last night - carving a pumpkin mashtun and pumpkin fermenter.

Re: 'Real' Pumpkin beer
That's awesome!
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: 'Real' Pumpkin beer
Once upon a time, they had posted the pics to a blog with a write up of sorts. I can't seem to find it any more - apparently the interwebs aren't static and unchanging.
Nervermind - I just found the old blog: http://www.sloshspot.com/blog/02-25-200 ... -Steps-125" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's easy! Just find a giant pumpkin or two and do it yourself.KitrGy wrote:Man, I would love to taste this one. Please let me know how I can do so.

I'm pretty sure these guys did it years ago as a one off.

http://www.byo.com/component/resource/a ... -last-call" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - They did this awhile ago at BYO. The tasting notes weren't so good. I'm doing a dunkel with some roasted hubbard squash (because I got a 26 pound one from my mom's garden), but I'll be mashing and fermenting like normal.

My neighbor used a shopvac to clean out his pumpkins @ Halloween and did an excellent job!
