Grains and Hops
Hi, I'm looking to start purchasing grains and hope in relatively large quantities. Any tips on websites or vendors that provide these for relatively good prices?

Watch for Brewnoser group buys. We just had one. Great way to support the club and save money.

Dave is your best price generally unless you get in on a group buy, or OBK (or similar) has a big sale

Re: Grains and Hops
I have been buying lately, smaller amounts, at Maritime Wine and Beer in the North end of Halifax,
Come in 5 lb and 1 lb bags but the best price per pound anywhere, also they have a huge selection
Of hops and white labs yeast. Also priced very reasonably.

Re: Grains and Hops
Mark have you requested access to the group buy thread?
I would tend to think there will be another one long before next year.

Is this just group buy list just for NS? Or is there a sub group in NB (SJ) that uses this too?

It's for anyone who wants to start a group buy.Hobbitfu wrote:Is this just group buy list just for NS? Or is there a sub group in NB (SJ) that uses this too?
People from NB & PEI get in on the large group buys quite often. The person organizing the group buy is free to set whatever restrictions they want.

Re: Grains and Hops
I had a look at their site, and they have a pdf from late last year, and they are more expensive than dave unless they have droped their prices.
LME and DME are both more expensive, grain by the bag seems about the same, by the pount they are in the 2.29-2.49/lb range where dave is 1.89 ish
And their wyeast is 9.99 a pack where Dave is 8.49
So Dave is still the best price around, not always as easy to get to admittedly.
Edit: I have heard good things about Maritime Wine and Beer, so I'm not trying to bad mouth them, just pointing out that price wise there are other cheaper options

Re: Grains and Hops
The price is 8.00 dollars for 5 lbs regular 2 row, works out to a little under $1.65 lb
At Maritime Wine and Beer, other grains can't really say want the price is. I usually
Buy Maris Otter, 2 row, Munich Malt, all of which he carries. Admittedly I really like Daves,
All the hardware and yes, the best grain selection and display in the area but I spread the
Love around, I even got a great deal at Nobel Grape on a pound of Simcoe, never saw that
One coming.
As for the PDF on his website at Maritime wine and beer, I think it's a little
Old but he's trying.
