Sandy asked Nash himself and 8% was part of the reply. And I thought I remembered something about 8% in the regulations, but it's definitely not in the "sale of growlers" reg:

Not sure where that comes from. A previous version of the regulation? Or a limit on beer sales in general that isn't as easy to find?

rockbottom may not fill growlers stronger than that, but that is their own choice.

It's house policy set by me when I started with the company 3 yrs ago. I've explained it to some before; no growler fills on anything over 8% abv, period.

Why? We already charge a premium for Fathom and the like so what would we charge for a jug o RIS, something that takes 3-4 months to condition instead of 3 weeks? I don't want to charge an arm and leg for it, too many people would diss that so I'd rather just not offer it in that format. That said if we were permitted by legislature to sell 750ml Squealers I'd be all over it, it'd be the perfect size for those big beers and it'd make sense to pay more of a premium for a small bottle like that. And hopefully, it helps drive some business into the pub.

Stopped in tonight. Had a couple beer and some apps. Beer was excellent, loved thulsa doom II Apps weren't great, rings were doughy in the middle and wings were dry. However the beer made it worth the trip!
