New Wolfville Breweries
I heard today that Drew McNeil, who has the Library Pub in Wolfville, is opening up a brewery. Does anyone know anything about this?

Re: New Wolfville Brewery?
Nope, but I did get to know Drew a little bit when I worked at Acadia in the mid-2000s and drank a tonne of Guinness at the Library Pub. He's a good guy and a savvy businessman. If he does do it (and it wouldn't surprise me if he does) I expect he'll be pretty smart about it. Converting the Coffee Merchant downstairs to more restaurant/bar space was something he was already talking about when I left in 2005. Looks like it worked out for him with the Wine Merchant. And he was always interested in bringing in other beers if he could -- he was one of the first places in NS to offer Big Rock and it looks like he's got a healthy amount of local craft beer available now. If it's true I suspect Wolfville could do worse than to have him as a brewpub owner. And as much as I liked the Raven Ale a few doors down at Paddy's, I found their product to be rather inconsistent.

I read in the Atlantic Canadian Beer Blog today that Schoolhouse maybe looking to hook up with a restaurant for expansion. Could this be a connection?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Yes Brian it seems you are right. I walk past there every day on my way home from work and so I stopped in to try the Schoolhouse beer first night on may way home. It seems they are going to serve Schoolhouse beer regularly and there was talk about Drew going down there to brew with him, but the general impression it was a bit unlikely that would happen.LiverDance wrote:I read in the Atlantic Canadian Beer Blog today that Schoolhouse maybe looking to hook up with a restaurant for expansion. Re: New Wolfville Brewery?
More rumors (sorry). There is a new brewery in the works in Wolfville in the building next to Pete's, nothing to do with Pete or the Library pub as far as I know.

There's more than one brewery in the works.

We're discussing Wolfville breweries to the best of my knowledge. At least that's what the thread title indicates.

Re: New Wolfville Brewery?
Someone's bought the land by the port pub to build a brewery. This must be the one. The one that's going in the bike shop is another (I think). Thanks for the info.
