I understand this happened a while ago, and felt that I should be free to express myself on this kind of activity on a public form such as Brewnosers.
Some may find this funny and " Just a joke…", but this kind of behaviour is far from appropriate. It is outright masochistic, hurtful and highly offensive. I also understand that we as a club do not have that many female members, do you think many would like to take part in a club where such talk and behaviour is tolerated? I don't think so, and if I personally was spoken to in such a way, I for one would have a problem with it.
What gets me is how such comments are still up on the forum, showing clearly that such masochistic commentary are deemed acceptable. Is this a shared opinion of both long time members (est. 1986) and newer members? Are such comments OK by the form moderators?
taping?... nice spelling

Female member chiming in here...
If MY panties aren't in a bunch over those comments, I have a hard time understanding how yours are, but not much offends me, least of all the carrying on that goes on not only on here, but most internet forums.
I took that entire incident as an "all in good fun" kinda thing, being offended didn't even cross my mind...

Me and others found it offensive, just wanted to speak up. Its old news now, just saying I didn't like it.

I know things have been slow around here, but do we really need the drama. This is worse than an episode of General Hospital
I don't moderate the forums unless need be - I don't want it to be a job, it's supposed to be fun. I've only ever deleted 2 posts on this forum (other than spam), and both were at the request of the persons referred to in the posts.
If Andy or Alicia wanted to contact me to have the posts removed, I'd gladly do it: feel free to PM me if that's the case

I found the comments immature, but I wouldn't want to see the posts deleted (unless, like jimmy said, the subject took offense). they are what they are

I've had to think long and hard about how to comment on this thread. I can see that an innocent comment got hijacked and references were made to sex, which in our culture is a daily occurrence and usually just ignored. I also know some (maybe all?) of the people who are commenting and do not think there is malice involved. I understand these were a few comments meant to be a joke. However, I think Dirt Chicken has a valid point and that this is not an appropriate way to joke about something that can be likened to a gang bang (reference of standing around in a circle to watch someone get "tapped" is exactly what this is). Misogynist references permeate our language but that does not mean it is acceptable. If the reference alluded to a minority we would probably all feel a little uncomfortable but we are still quite accepting of gender comments. In an open forum, these type of comments can be harmful. All I ask is for people to think about why there are objections. Do you really think this is ok? I'd rather talk about beer.

Nothing about that post bothers me, we're all free to think what we want.
But the last sentence is kind of funny. You've been a registered member for over 2 years, made 3 posts, and none of them talk about beer.

I fail to see how any of this is misogynistic. This whole thing could have been about Nash "tapping" a keg named Jimmy and I'd feel no differently about it. It was simply a funny play on words - nothing else.
Oh, and the act of watching people have sex isn't considered a gang bang; if anything, it would be considered voyeurism or exhibitionism

Okay, so my account had been disabled because I have NEVER commented before. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am not offended at all by the comment made by LiverDance and I appreciate him sending us a message to apologize. I am more offended that people thought that I would have been offended by such a stupid joke. I think that this was blown out of proportion and people should just getting back to talking about beer so I can creep without commenting like before.

I can see how others may have been offended. I can also see how such comments might not be constructive to gaining new female members.
That said, we are a pretty relaxed group, and I don't think many want to see that change. It would be challenging to communicate with people like Nash if we all needed to be politically correct.

Now to try and return the thread to Rockbottom business...
I ate the Bison burger. The waitress was kind enough to point out that it comes with ketchup, mustard, and relish, despite the menu not saying so.
It wasn't bad. Made the mistake of getting rice as my side. I think it was microwaved instant rice

Will not do that again.
And they fucking ran out of barrel aged jacktar stout before I got any!

If the initial comment had been made in person around a group of friends it would have been laughed at and forgotten. Instead it was posted here and morphed into something inappropriately crude. It plays into a stereotype I hope we all wish to avoid: beer swilling louts who objectify women and condone sexual harassment. My concern is not over those who were named (they seem quite capable of representing themselves) but those we don't know: the new members who want to come out and meet us at RB, the lurkers who are still getting comfortable before introducing themselves, and the first time site visitors who are trying to decide if this group is for them. By letting this 'joke' sit unaddressed for so long we did our reputation a great disservice and hampered our efforts to enlighten more people (both male and female) with our beer knowledge.

I see it as quite the opposite. I'd rather go out to meet a group of people I knew joked around and had a sense of humor, not a bunch of dry, stuffy beer geeks that can't take a joke. I guess that's the beauty of people - no one person is the same.

this is a forum with majority men, im sure there is going to be a few politically incorrect jokes that slip through the cracks every so often. i wouldnt consider one joke to be representative of the entire form.

Agreed - and frankly if I didn't know all of you guys, the long drawn out "oh my god I'm so offended" comments are what would put me off from joining the group, not the original joke.

As much as this thread has been entirely hijacked I'd just like to throw my hat in the ring in support of DC's initial comment. While Jimmy made a good point, that it's important we not come off entirely as squares, it seems a clear majority of "humour" on the forum is sexist in nature. If you want to make the comments to your friends, go for it. Unfortunately, people end up being guilty by association and I'd rather be far from such comments. There is plenty of humour out there which doesn't involve sexism, so I don't think anyone should be afraid to laugh. I also don't think it's something the "moderators" need to involve themselves in, as it's not a threat to anyone's life. The few comments in this thread taking issue with the sexist remarks should help potential members realize that it's not something universally tolerated on this board. Hopefully the calibre of discussion can remain high, and people can show off the sharpness of their wit rather than resorting to cheap, offensive remarks.
