Forum upgrade

Post by RubberToe » Thu Mar 23, 2017 7:48 pm

Hey everyone,

You may have noticed the site just changed.... a lot. Well that's because I've just upgraded the forum software, two major versions ahead. So far so good.

However, I don't think our pretty Brewnosers site template is a simple drop in but I'll work on it. Also, I plan on upgrading tapatalk.

Cheers, and if you see something wierd please add a comment to this thread. It doesn't matter if it's small, I'd like to know anyway and I'm guessing most things can be fixed.

Thanks,
-Rob

Thanks.

A couple of things. The upgrade wiped a few settings, like user email verification. Like 10 bots got through in the first minutes and I had to delete them. Argh.

There's some broken modules, some causing parts of the site to crap out. It's a work in progress.

Oh, and email notifications may not be working.

Check this phpbb 3.2 style out, I think just adding our black & orange logo and it would be perfect. Responsive too.

It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? Yep, great work! And I think the flat style would be a good way to go.

Out of curiosity, where are we getting the significant performance improvement from? Did you prune/reduce big attachments from the DB? Did you throw more CaC resources at it? Or is the new phpBB just that much better?

Thanks. I'll get that template going sometime today.

I noticed the site working better as well. I think it's all phpbb since I haven't done anything else significant. The upgrade was pretty huge with regards to the database as well so I bet that's where most of the increase in performance has come from. Indexes and other schema changes probably.

This time around we should keep the add-ons slim which will let us stay on top of updates a bit easier.

Yeah, not sure if there's a need for any add-ons tbh.
