Looking to buy a laptop for the first time and was thinking of the $300 - $500 range. Anybody have any suggestions or experiences? :beer2:

My last 2 laptops (and my wifes laptops) have been certified pre-owned thinkpads from here:
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/info/used/computers.html

They regularly have sales where everything is 50% off, which means that you can get a decent Thinkpad for $150-250ish and really nice laptops for less than $400.

I second buying a Thinkpad. Stay away from the AMD processors though. Spend the extra and get the Intel version.

Biggest thing to note w/ a thinkpad, is you generally get a better laptop w/ the previous gen models. I'd recommend a used x230 over a used x240 for example.

Also, if looking @ new: http://www.productchart.com/laptops/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
