"Guinges Go Home"

Post by GuingesRock » Sat Dec 26, 2015 6:36 pm

As in "ET Go Home"

Hope you all had a good Christmas. Was unable to log in to Brewnosers because there was a family setting on the internet service of the cottage we are renting and too many F words on here :) I emailed the owners and the changed it. Lovely cottage right next to my mother's cottage which is too small for us all. Big fanily get together and having a great time. Cottage pictures here: http://www.hillsidecottagecornwall.co.uk/gallery7.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A sequel to my last tip back home to the UK in 2013: http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... =10&t=4721" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

ps. They don't think I'm at all odd here ...just English :)

Walk to Gorran Haven X-Mas eve:

My wife and kids :)

Here's the real Guinges Rock, near the horizon behind me, it's a big rock jutting up out of the English Channel off Cornwall UK. I used to sail around solo as a kid in a sailing dingy, often in strong winds, almost horizontal. When it was calmer I'd man the helm and feather for mackerel and Pollock at the same time.

Thoughtful Christmas presents from my lovely 84 yr old mother:

Antique`half yard`of beer. She even managed to buy a stand for it. Also a beer umbrella with my favorite Cornish real ale bitter on it ..`Tribute` from St. Austell Brewery, 5 miles from here. St Austell Brewery pictures and methods were detailed in my 2013 thread linked in the original post of this thread.

Stay tuned `Doc Martin` fans. Great English TV comedy. My 16 year old son is a big fan so we had to go to Port Isaac today, where it was filmed. Had to go through a ford, to get there, it`s like a river you drive through. Kathleen couldn`t believe what was happening. It was normal for me. The narrow windy roads at high speed almost made here throw up. I was in my element driving around in my sisters Volvo. There`s a picture of me trying to look stern in front of Doc Martin`s house.

I worked at a hospital there for a few months and loved it. Very friendly people. Great pubs. All the famous British potteries are there. 1 ½ hours from Stoke-On-Trent is Stratford Upon Avon (Shakespear’s birthplace, his house is now the Shakespeare museum).

Also 1 ½ hours away, The Cotswolds. I couldn’t believe the beauty of the Cotswolds when I was there. Thatched cottages and amazing countryside.

Cornwall where I am from, and am now, has the rugged coastline and the picturesque fishing villages. Big tourist area also.

The roads pictured above are 2 way traffic, just wide enough for 2 horses, which is what they were built for. Lots of backing up and 90 degree corners because they were built around people's fields rather than going through them.

More Pictures from yesterday's trip to Port Isaac. Just in case anyone has seen/might see the "Doc Martin" show filmed there. You'll recognise these views.

Happy New Year Brewnosers!

Double celebration tonight at midnight. We were married in the snow in Black River on New Year’s Day, 9 happy years ago. Daffs still in flower here.

Bit groggy this morning.

Fancy dress is a thing on New Year’s Eve in the UK …or drag or whatever. Fun was had by all.

First pic is my old friend Tom who owns the pub. Pub was jam packed at midnight. Everyone hugs and kisses at midnight. Bobbys with helmets on tend to get slaughtered with all the women running up to kiss them.

Very sociable. Everyone chatting to everyone with huge merriment and laughter. I miss that kind of pup atmosphere in Canada.

My mum (Bet) pictured with Kathleen and Max, took Max home around 10.00 pm and we had a chance to let our hair down.

Another band playing this afternoon at same pub (next door). Several 70’s rock stars ..the “Streets of London” guy is one I remember will be there, and Willie Wilson, Floyd drummer. Guess it’ll be another pub day. One good thing about the real ale here is it is only around 3.5% and you can drink pint after pint without getting too sloshed.

I took pictures later of everyone dancing in their fancy dress but all the pictures of later in the evening turned out fuzzy for unknown some reason.

That's Andy the plumber with the blow up guitar. There's a picture of him a few months ago on here trying my beer I sent over to Tom http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... er#p133997" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. One of these days I should come over and set up a brewery in the back of Tom's pub.

Happy New Year!

Carhays castle (semi-castellated manor house) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caerhays_Castle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, couple of miles away. A glimpse of what the English aristocracy drink at Christmas ...quite a lot by the looks of it.

Yes Chris!

Took Max to see a castle today.
St Mawes Castle is among the best-preserved of Henry VIII's coastal artillery fortresses, and the most elaborately decorated of them all. One of the chain of forts built between 1539 and 1545 to counter an invasion threat from Catholic France and Spain.
