Electrical question

Post by jason.loxton » Mon Dec 01, 2014 6:12 pm

Have an odd issue. Going to have an electrician come, but thought I'd check here for a diagnosis in advance. One circuit in my house has been going out (which unfortunately contains the pellet stove--not a good thing at night!). The weird thing is that none of the breakers trip. To get things back on, I have to flip the main (100 amp) breaker on and off (which, again, isn't tripped), and all is good for the next couple of days.

Thoughts?

When you say one circuit, do you mean one of the phases, or just the circuit with the pellet stove?

If you are dropping a phase to your house, and it's intermittent, get the electrician to have a look at your meter base. Had the same thing happen to Mom's place is Westmount, phase would drop, we would cycle main breaker and everything was fine for a bit. When talking to NSPI and the electrician, they said it was fairly common due to the proximity of the salt water - over time, the jaws in the meter base corroded and deteriorated, causing the intermittent connections.

I meant just the circuit with the pellet stove (it has some other stuff on it too). Most of the house is left unaffected.

Your sure there isn't a GFCI wired in to the circuit anywhere?
Just cycling the circuit in question won't fix it?
Is the breaker heating up at all in operation?
