Hoppy Beerday?

Post by GuingesRock » Wed Nov 27, 2013 12:46 pm

I always say happy Birthday when there's a Hoppy Beerday thread. It's seems very sociable.

It seems like birthday threads are for a select few?

I notice Jimmy usually starts the birthday threads, so I guess the question is for you. If it's just your friends, I can understand that, but if it's people who you decide are special members of the site, what's the ranking system and how does it all work please? :)

No, no special ranking and not just for friends. I usually try to catch the birthdays by the end of the day and post something up if someone else hasn't already.

Should it be all or none maybe?...these threads are friendly and sociable. It does seem like they are for a special few, so the absence of one is unfriendly and antisocial.

I've noticed the same thing on other sites, and it can be construed as an old boys club sort of situation.....always wondered about this. I hope you don't mind my questions.

I wasn't going to bring it up, but you did miss my last 2 beer days :wahh:

Anyone is welcome to post the Birthday threads. As I said, I normally try and catch them if someone hasn't already, but it's not something I specifically look for.. I've been especially busy the past couple of months after buying the house/doing renovations/moving in..it never ends!

For those who have never noticed it before, the Birthday notification shows up at the bottom of the forums near the who's online.

None of that allowed here :pow:

But yeah, it shows "Congratulations: Username" for anyone who has a birthday. Now all you mofo's can post the hoppy beerdays and take the heat off me

Jimmy, I’d volunteer to be the mofo of the month who checks first thing every morning and posts a Hoppy Beerday thread for everyone whose birthday it is, even if they have only posted once. I’ll check every morning. If I’m going to do that I’d like it to be worthwhile, so I was hoping everyone would enter the day and month of their birth in their profiles so it will show up on the home page when their birthday is (if you put the year it will show your age, but you don’t need to enter the year). There should be one or two birthdays per day, and of course everyone should say happy birthday if they can on the thread. What say you Jimmy? Anyone want to volunteer to take over on Jan 1st for a month?

I just didn’t want to sit back and bitch about things if I can be part of a solution and making this a better place for all.

Ps Happy belated Bluenose (twice) I hope you had some really good birthdays :)

Mark, as you know I (Kirsten) am pretty bad about internet-related stuff, but Keely is really very good at it. The first site she visits every morning is this one so she has volunteered to do January's Hoppy Beerdays. It sounds like a lovely idea.

I know we've already said it but, dammit, you deserve a Brewnosers one too so a belated Happy Beerday Gwyn Jeez!

Aw thanks Kirsten and Keely, and thanks doing January. Only thing is I'll need to wangle out of you when your birthdays are. I'll harass you on the pm side :)

of course this only works if you've put you birth date in your profile...

I’ve been back through December off topic and found out when Leafman, Jimmy and Becky’s birthdays are. Not many people have their birth dates programmed in, but that’s all I can do, unless people want to pm me with birthday dates.

Next month the redoubt girls are doing the Hoppy Beerday threads. Maybe if they want to recruit someone for February, and the February Person for March and so on, possibly by posting here with a request.

Historically, Jimmy seems to do the Merry X-mas everyone post, and Mr.X seems to be doing the Happy New Year one.

When is the birth day for the site? Might be good to celebrate its anniversary. What else can be celebrated with a glass of beer?

Please enter your birthday in your profiles even if you have posted only once.

Should Hoppy Birthday threads be limited to people who have posted within 6 months say? I posted a Hoppy Beerday for someone who probably left the site 2 years ago.

Over to you Redoubt for the birthdays. You have to be logged in to see who's birthday it is on the home page (board index page). Thanks :)

If anyone/everyone wants to look out for birthdays and start Hoppy Beerday threads. Keely (of redoubt) and I will try to make sure none are missed.

Neither Keely nor I are bloody well forgetting your birthday Keith …or anyone else’s. Make sure you enter the day and month of your birthday in your profile so we know when it is. Actually, put in the year too, so we can rib you about your age. :)

We need to know Stanley’s DOB as well. It might be stamped on a little silver plate somewhere on his back maybe. :)
