Grain Storage Thank You!

Thanks a million to whomever it was that suggested that I go to my local superstore and ask for icing buckets to store my grain (Dave G., perhaps?). I picked up 10 in the last few days for free. They have awesome lids and will hold quite a bit of grain... and I have to admit that one "fresh" one had buttercreme icing still in it... I couldn't resist trying some... for shame...

Yup that was me.
Did you get one with icing left in it? Those one are delicious!

I did get one with some left and ate more than any conscientious, self respecting adult really should. I had to run the oxyclean/water in it to stop myself... also on the plus side those lids will fit on standard 5G Home Hardware buckets to replace the crappy lids with no seal.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing guys. I'll have to look into this. I have my 25 kg bag of 2 row and Marris Otter sitting on the floor in the basement in boxes with a bunch of speciality grains in bags. I know the floor is the worst spot for many reasons so this idea rocks.

So you're the bastard thats been getting to them before me EH!?
Ive managed to get about 15 since sunday as well. Not dealing with lactose very well, the smell isn't all that appealing., but two big ones and one small one hold a whole bag of grain so I'm not complaining.

Unless you're driving to New Glasgow I haven't been poaching your buckets... but if need be
I can't stand the grease that builds up in the sink. Since the icing is mostly shortening I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I filled my spare bathtubs with scalding hot water and Palmolive to get the icing off and the hit them with oxyclean. The worst was I let them sit in my car over night ... Things I will never do again!

Thanks for this tip! Town of Amherst has officially been raided for about 16 buckets of various sizes. So much more study than those ice cream tubs I was snagging.

I just picked up 8 large ice cream containers from Averys here in Truro a few hours ago. They charge 0.25 each and they are cleaned quite well. Little soap and water and a good rinse and they will be perfect.
