"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? Ban on rum named after porn star Ron Jeremy just another day for Canada’s hyper strict liquor laws
http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/02/14 ... quor-laws/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
...In Quebec last summer, provincial liquor authorities refused to grant a liquor licence to a suburban Montreal bar unless they first refused to play rap or hip hop music, purportedly to cut down on crime and other disturbances at the venue....
...Also in 2011, the LCBO announced it was similarly refusing to sell a craft beer named Smashbomb Atomic IPA, arguing that it was too “extreme.” Ultimately, the board relented after the beer’s maker, Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, performed some tweaks to the label....

Ice fishing is not the only fringe sport that has embraced drug testing. Competitors in darts, miniature golf, chess and tug of war were all tested in recent years, according to the sports’ organizers and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Two things caught my eye: drug testing fishermen is the obvious one, but also the thought that they are trying to make ice fishing an Olympic sport?mr x wrote:Dope Tests in Ice Fishing? No, Beer Doesn’t Count

That would be gripping television wouldn't it. I can't bear to watch taped and edited fishing shows, so I can't imagine how painful it would be live.LeafMan66_67 wrote:Two things caught my eye: drug testing fishermen is the obvious one, but also the thought that they are trying to make ice fishing an Olympic sport?
However 'River Monsters' can be entertaining...

Drug testing of ice fishermen on "As it happens" right now. Apparently in Wisconsin, beer (or at least what they call beer) is the drug of choice. On Musquodoboit Harbour, where the ice fishing season is well under way, it's dark rum.akr71 wrote:That would be gripping television wouldn't it. As I've mentioned, I'm a competitive bridge player. The World Bridge Federation has this insane idea that they can get a card game into the Olympics. Consequently, bridge at the highest levels requires drug testing. That's even more insane than the idea of playing cards in the Olympics - the average age of bridge players in North America is something like 68: they're ALL on drugs!

Just listened to that show. Man, I should have gotten into drug testing years ago - this new kind that makes lots of money and seems to have unlimited growth.
