2:45 AM ADT Wednesday 02 July 2014
Tropical cyclone information statement for:

NEW BRUNSWICK
NEWFOUNDLAND
NOVA SCOTIA
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

For tropical storm Arthur.

The next statement will be issued by 9:00 AM ADT. Tropical storm Arthur east of Florida forecast to parallel the U.S. East Coast as a hurricane this week - may play a role in Atlantic Canada weather this weekend.

We are analysing the development of tropical storm Arthur and latest computer model forecasts to gain an early indication of how the storm may affect weather in Atlantic Canada this weekend. The tropical storm is expected to intensify to hurricane intensity as it moves slowly northeastward not far off the U.S. East Coast. A trough of low pressure will be moving eastward from the Great Lakes, guiding Arthur toward Atlantic Canada. At this point the likelihood is for an offshore track which would lead to a primarily 'rain event' over land. However it really is too early to rule-out a direct impact - the nature of the trough approaching from the Great Lakes will make all the difference in Arthur's intensity and track as it moves northeastward. Most computer models develop Arthur into a hurricane, so it appears likely that we will need to keep an eye on the storm this week. Therefore, the Canadian Hurricane Centre will be monitoring the weather patterns closely for the next several days with the first full forecast package planned for later this morning or afternoon.
4:41 AM ADT Wednesday 02 July 2014
Special weather statement in effect for:
•Kings County

Warm and humid weather.

A warm and humid airmass over the Maritimes will result in humidex values reaching the mid thirties over inland areas of Mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton today. Similar temperatures and humidity are expected on Thursday.

The public is advised to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated if spending long periods of time outdoors.

Canceled my brew day for tomorrow, as I'm an outdoors/garage brewing type. Hope Sunday is nicer.

Sunny and nice here in Lower Sackville - hard to imagine the storm tomorrow. However, we will tie our stuff down and move the kamado and WSM to safety before turning in tonight.

Rain stopped for a bit now really heavy again with lots of thunder. I see they have severe thunder storm warnings for us for this evening (see below)

http://weather.gc.ca/warnings/report_e. ... 1407040506" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
7:01 PM ADT Friday 04 July 2014
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
•Kings County

Updated or ended by 9:00 p.m. ADT.

At 7:01 p.m. ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain.

A cluster of severe thunderstorms from East Dalhousie to Blomidon are producing locally heavy downpours that could create local flooding. These thunderstorms are expected to ease later this evening.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Rapidly rising rivers and creeks can sweep away bridges, culverts, buildings, and people. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Avoid driving through water on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Yep - wife has bought into the hype. Not thrilled that I'm heading to Stillwell's. No power since 6:30am, just as I was getting ready to grind my coffee beans!

Tim Hortons will do for coffee - just leaving there. And Alex suggested the generator, so we don't have to bail the sump pit. Coffee grinder would be a bonus!

Looks like the current storm track means we're just on the outside of the storm here.

I'm sure the wind here in Dartmouth is pretty similar - but it seems a lot stronger when there are 50 year old trees blowing above your house!

We had some thunder earlier and a short cloudburst. Not the wind has picked up, but that is nothing new for Amherst. Fingers crossed though.

We were supposed to go camping yesterday at Little Risser's, past Bridgewater. We changed our reservation to tomorrow - heard that that they closed all Provincial parks yesterday at 5pm.

Just got power.

It said on the news wind speeds of 139 KMPH were recorded in Greenwood, and that's equivalent to a category 1 hurricane. Over 1/4 million houses and businesses in NS and NB lost power.
