Restaurant Suggestion
My wife would like to eat at a really good authentic Italian or Mexican restaurant in Halifax on Sunday night. We are staying downtown the the Prince George......any good suggestions that might be close by?

Re: Restaurant Suggestion
Not sure about Italian but Cantina Mexicana is damn good and right outside the hotel doors, sort of a fast foodish environment though. They also close fairly early

Cool, thanks! Can you sit down and have a glass of wine or beer there as well?

There's seating but I don't think they're licensed, not 100% sure on that though, check their website or Facebook pagecanuck wrote:Cool, thanks! Can you sit down and have a glass of wine or beer there as well?

I like Ristorante aMano quite a lot, Bicycle Thief is decent too but not sure I'd call it that Italian. daMaurizio is good, if a little pricey. Il Mercato was good, but they're closed for a makeover. Vinnie's Pasta Bar is supposed to be good but I've never been. You gotta try a Margherita pie at Piatto while you're in town at some point, no pasta or other type entrees to be had there though.

Re: Restaurant Suggestion
I can vouch for both the Bicycle Thief and Da Maurizio - excellent, though pricey. If you hit the Bicycle Thief, try one of their cocktails. Cantina Mexicana is not right out the hotel doors at the Prince George - it's a solid 10 minute walk up hill. I think Nash may be confusing it with the Lord Nelson. That said, Cantina Mexicana is worth the walk, though they aren't licensed, so you won't be drinking there. The Smiling Goat is next door, if you're looking for good espresso or great drip (try their Clover vacuum drip brewer, the only one east of Montreal!).
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Bicycle Thief is good, but loud. And the beer selection is frighteningly gross. Certainly can't say they jumped on the 'local' bandwagon, hahahaaabenwedge wrote:I can vouch for both the Bicycle Thief and Da Maurizio - excellent, though pricey. At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

Re: Restaurant Suggestion
Thanks gents for all of the feedback. As of now, I think we'll probably try The Bicycle Thief for sure and then either Da Maurizio or Ristorante aMano for the second supper. I'm not concerned about the beer selection as my wife and I will be drinking wine. But I plan to have lunch at both RB and H&T so beers will be the main focus there.
