Grapes - what am I supposed to do with these?

Post by akr71 » Sun Mar 25, 2012 7:44 pm

These have obviously been neglected for a few, if not several years. Am I supposed to prune them back? And if so, how much? When?

Definitely need to be pruned. They can be pruned any time now. Lots of great videos on youtube explaining how.

Yeah, I would cut them back to just a few main vines. They will do better for it and be much more manageable. If they really start doing well, you can always order wine varieties and splice them into the existing stock.

Oh, and save the vines for smoking. They are apparently a tasty smoking wood.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Speaking of that, Hans at Jost said to drop by anytime and pick up any trimmings. They finished trimming last week I think, he said they just leave them where they drop for people to help themselves if anyone is down that way :cheers2:
