Ball lock kegs

AEB (Italian). IMO the best Corny you can buy.

I'm really not a fan of the "clean in place" posts on these kegs; I like to fully disassemble for cleaning. Looks like I'm going to pick up a couple of the used kegs instead.

I agree - I tear down my kegs every time I clean them. I wouldn't get a comfortable feeling leaving them in place.

It’s so hard to stand by and watch fellow brewers take the wrong turn in life.

Two years ago I got one of those AEB kegs because NG didn’t have any second hand ones in. I was furious that you couldn’t get the poppets out of the posts, and felt I had been jipped. It's every brewer's right to get those poppets out and fuck around getting them back in and seated properly. Two years later, that’s been the only keg that has stood by me and been totally reliable and trouble free. No infections. I fell in love with it. I now have got rid of all my troublesome used kegs and I have six of those AEB kegs, and another on order. Because of the design, the poppet valves always seat perfectly with no failures, and the connectors snap on with such ease. You can take the posts off and boil them if you are that worried (I just run cleaner/sanitizer through them).

All I can say is buy one and try it. You’ll never look back.

But you can't sanitize crud. I've taken apart enough of the ball lock posts to know that there's crap that gets stuck in the spring area of the assembly. If there's anything stuck in there, sanitizing isn't going to help.

I think you can flush through anything. Google and I don't think you won't find problems reported.

Edit: The posts come off just the same as a normal keg. You can take them off and the dip tubes as usual, and back flush them if you want to. I don't back flush them.

My hippy beers tend to get hop crud stuck in the spring of the poppet. I just ran cleaner a d then sanitizer through the first times I used my keg then I disassembled... Now I disassemble every time

Each kegs get tore down completely each time. Posts and puppets get boiled

It just occurred to me that I don't get crud in my poppets because I use dip tubes shortened by 1 1/2". If you have your dip tubes going to the very bottom of the keg, you will suck up all kinds of stuff. In that case you would probably need to remove the posts and back flush them. Boiling the posts is also an option as another step.
