There's a Laser thermometer on at crappy tire for 20 Dollars marked down from a hundred. Maybe there is a problem with using this instead of a regular thermometer that i'm not aware of but I picked one up.

The issue with infrared thermometers is that they read low on shiny surfaces if they don't have an adjustment for emmisivity. There is probably a work around for using it on wort or kettles. Maybe something conductive that you could put on the exterior of the kettle with the same emmisivity as the default.

Thanks for the advice. Also picked it up for grilling/smoking, and because I needed to buy something at Crappy T|ire when I went in. Seemed to be fairly accurate once the grans went it and I could measure off them or the wort when it got darker.

Not sure how well it would work for grilling / smoking as you would only be measuring surface temperature of product.

Touche Derek. You win this round. I guess i could use it to check the temp of the coal bed. (Not sure why I`d need to do that very often). Otherwise beer and torturing the dog, it is.

I do use it to check my pizza stone temperature every once in a while.

The same type is on sale at Princess Auto tomorrow for $20. Also seen at Costco for somewhere around $20-$30.

I think the costco one runs around 19.99 - I almost picked it up one day.
